I'm looking for a combat wounded veteran to take on a high country mule deer hunt this fall. I want to find an individual that has a passion for the outdoors and wants to put in the effort to do a genuine western mule deer hunt and put in the necessary work to be successful and relive the satisfaction that only comes from giving your all. I will provide everything needed for the hunt including tags, travel, gear and whatever is needed to help overcome the limitations of disability.
My goal is to develop a process and a means for this individual to continue enjoying big game hunting with minimal assistance.
My requirements for the individual are as follows:
1. Must have served in a combat MOS.
2. Must be driven and willing to put in the effort to be successful.
3. Must be combat wounded.
4. Must be nominated by someone other than self. I don't want this to be a contest amongst deserving vets with one winner and many losers, so of you'd like to pursue this, have a buddy or family member nominate you.
Hunt will be October time frame but the training regimen will start immediately.
You can reach me via email @ [login to see] or search message me on my Facebook page.
From one veteran to another, thank you for your service.

Thank you everyone for your input, comments and encouragement. I have found the veteran that I am selecting for this hunt. SSG Michael Burns decided to enlist after 9/11 at the age of 32. He did three tours in Iraq before being hit by shrapnel from a mortar round. After enduring 8 surgeries and constant pain, he decided this year to amputate and get back to living his life for himself and his family. They performed an above the knee amputation this past February, and this hunt is a perfect goal for him to work towards.
you can follow his progress on his FB page "It's not about ME." If you want to follow the progress of the hunt, you can "friend" me on FB.
I have a list of gear and expenses needed to pull this off. I am running the donation process through a 501c3 non profit organization so there are no tax implications for the soldier and so that all that donate will receive a donation receipt for their tax purposes.
If you would like to help, please go to fieldofdreamsinc.org and click on the "Donate" tab. On the following screen,it will ask if the donation is in honor or memory of someone. Click "yes" and then enter "SSG Burns Mule Deer Hunt" in the box that pops up.
Thanks again and feel free to hit me up if you have questions or need more info!

Kim, apologies for not calling. I got buried in work and travel. I found a veteran for my hunt, but I would reach out to Field of Dreams or Wishes for Warriors for your veterans. Let me know if you need specific contacts and I can get you hooked up with the right people...

This is probably one of the best things I've tea on the net, in a long time. Good on you for doing this.

SGT Eric Pauly is there a specific reason you are only looking for combat arms MOS? I mean there are plenty of combat support and combat service support folks that were wounded also that may want to hunt. I do not have a dog in this but just wondering that.

Jim, it is just my personal preference for the event I am doing. Personally, I believe there is something purposeful about volunteering for a combat MOS that very rarely receives any differentiation in other benefits or events.
I am not trying do diminish the sacrifice of those wounded or disabled while serving in a support role in any way. I appreciate all that have served.
As an infantry soldier I remember being on patrols or posted at OPs while those in the rear were able to benefit from USO events and the like. I get it...that's what we signed up for and there are no hard feelings harbored whatsoever. This is just something I wanted to do with my time and resources and have to narrow the field as best I can to select the individual I believe will benefit the most.
Hope this makes sense...
Thank you for your service!

Just got to thinking one day...what if something happened to me and I couldn't hunt any more? That would probably result from a tragic accident, but those that enlist for a combat MOS put themselves in harms way purposely, not by accident. They deserve more recognition and consideration, than those that enlist to turn wrenches or work in an office. No disrespect whatsoever to all those support soldiers that make it all possible, but those that volunteer to put themselves in the line of fire seem to have so little differentiation in the civilian world, that I wanted to focus on those that put themselves in harms way and pay the price.

Sgt.Eric Pauley; The fact that you are making funds and time and eqiupment for this soldier ,says volumns about your passion and compassion.I say thank you, from many of us veterans.I must disqualify myself since these things tend to start early, and my coffee pot doesn`t shut off until 11:00 am.Once again, thanks and God bless you.

Can we nominate each other? A buddy of mine is also met the criteria. Thank you.

Wow Combat MOS only? Even though I hold one, several of us served in combat units during war and were wounded while serving in non combat MOS. That's kinda bullcrap there soldier.

Wife was writing recommendation but did not get it done or turned in in time! She was assaulted and that has been priority for now! Court case and all!
