Looking for any specific references or POCs that would be helpful in kicking off planning to deactivate a company in 2017. I've done the usual searching, but hoping someone that has done this successfully in the past has some advice/guidelines/supporting documents/specific helpful regulations that would allow my team to jumpstart this process.

I've been in the outskirts of the process and you need an outstanding PBO team. The company can't deactivate until all the people and property are off the books. Moving people seems easy enough but finding new homes for property can be challenging. I recommend a change if coach's style inventory so all of the shortages are accounted for, less surprises when the equipment does go. If the PBO allows, having a garage sale style event can help. When 4th BCT 1CD was deactivated they opened up different motor pools in different days. My company needed HMMWVs and we picked up several. Contacting similar type units for those that may want excess might help with specialty equipment.

Thanks CPT Creed. We actually have a great PBO and this is excellent advice. For good or bad, we have under-equipped sister companies in our Battalion so laterally transferring most equipment to those companies to get them to 100% is definitely on our planning timeline. We're also going to do a full COC inventory before we start the deactivation so that we can deal with any accountability issues ahead of time.

220-1 has inactivation/deactivation info for ratings and timelines.

Thanks MAJ Habina, I keep 220-1 handy but looking for what folks might have already put together for planning and tracking tasks for deactivation and resources that outline the process. I have a very short window and a lot of tasks, want to learn from others what has worked best for them for the actual deactivation process at the company level.

I wasn't trying to be smart with the answer. There are (or were) actions on who to contract when inactivating or where to start in 220-1.
Try: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/report/call/call_90-10_se2.htm
It had a good checklist in the making.

Didn't take it that way, just tried clarifying the why and what is all. Thanks for the link!

MAJ (Join to see) Sir I have planned such an event, but no longer have those documents at my disposal. I'll make a phone call today and see if they still reside on the share drive and if my replacement will share them.
All I can offer at this time is... suggestions to your questions if you have any.

Sir, I inactivated my company about a year ago. When I get back to my computer I can dig through my documents and send you everything I used to do it.
