Are military members being Freemasons a dying breed?

I was wondering how many people out there in the military are active Freemasons? The Freemans have a heritage of having military men in there ranks but it seems almost like we are a dying breed. Any comments or thoughts on this subject would be great. Thank you.

I think some lodges, like the Prince Halls for one, have put a bad taste into people's mouths. Everyone equates them with freemasonry, and aren't aware of the organization as a whole...

Oddly enough, I'm actually familiar with the origins of the PH lodges. I've been forced to research it in reference to Soldier complaints of racial bias and undue influence in military affairs.
While the historical origin of the PH lodge is noble, it's their current incarnation that is an issue. Regardless of the intent, they've simply become racially segregated social clubs. In my experience, every time I've heard complaints from Soldiers in USAREUR, Iraq, Afghanistan, and in CONUS concerning impropriety and bias concerning leadership and the Masons, it's always been a PH lodge.
I've never heard a complaint about another lodge, which is why I feel those are what's ruining the reputation of freemasonry as a whole.

My lodge in Washington does a Unity March annually with the Grand Lodge of Washington and the Prince Hall Grand Lodge. I can see where the issue is with some, but most of the PH brothers I know are very respectable.
I always laugh when I hear being a Freemason will help get you promoted. I have not seen any preferential treatment and to the contrary got a weird look when people found out I was.

Look at this thread. It's mostly non masons complaining about preferential treatment, and a bunch of Masons basically saying "what? I don't see it". If the only ones happy about the situations are masons, there's clearly something to the discussion.

So let me say this. first. Everyone including myself have gone off topic. Yes membership is declining. For one reason or another, with that being said point number 2 I know SGM, CSM, BG and up that are members of masonry. Some PHA some not but one specific stood out to me and I will tell you what he told me. As a mason when we meet as a mason is one thing, as a soldiers I am your superior and that you will not forget. You will always give the proper respect. This brother has not given me any preferential treatment I have had to earn everything. If masonry could be used to get promoted I would of made SFC a long time ago. I am PHA and I am proud of it. We treat a man as a man regardless of what you look like. Masonry does not seek men, Men seek Masonry so please stop associating all the trouble makers to PHA because all the other branches of Masonry have their problem children as well

Thanks SSG Hasbun, now I know why I can't see them. I go commando so I don't have the magic underwear. O'well. I don't see any of the Officers in my chain with it so I am good.

Can I just go ahead and ask? Are the "Prince Hall" guys you refer to historically Black?

In my experience, the "ring knockers" are a bunch of jackasses and use their secret decoder rings to hook their buddies up and cover for weak NCOs.

Prince Hall Lodges are America's first black lodges. Their members are as ethnically diverse as any other lodges now.

Well, except for the ones that are exclusively black, which is every one I've ever seen..

I am PHA, and as you see I am light green. I just finished reading majority of the posts concerning this matter, and I feel the subject has swayed from its intended course. The perception of some choices of words states that as a whole, the Fraternity is divided. Whether it be due to race, religion, 3 or 4 letter. Truthfully, if it wasn't your intention to do so, remember that perception is everything to those who don't know or understand. If you are a Brother than be a Brother, regardless of status or type.

I see rings, coats, shirts, decals on vehicles every day. I have also see a lot of "drug deals" take place between masons and masons turn their backs on non members, so I would have to say I hope the numbers dwindle down to a big fat ZERO.

I will have to disagree with you. I have yet to see a mason turn there back on a non mason. Sounds to me like someone claims to be but not really affiliated. I have caught a few so called internet masons that try to be like us.

I see the real deal and I seen people get help from there brother to get up in the ranks answers to test or pt cards fixed or weapons cards fixed. lost weapons in the field oversea combat zone and nothing happen to them. It might not be 24/7 but it does happen.

If you see it, report it. That's how any person, including a freemason, learns - consequences or rewards for his actions.

SGT Menzie, let me echo MSG Mason's sentiment. If you see it, report it. Said conduct is decidedly UNmasonic.

I hope so... I've never seen a unit having a bunch of Freemasons in it ever turn out well for the non members in the unit...

I have been in 4 duty stations in six years and have never seen it turn out good or bad based on the amount of Freemasons in the organization.

Four duty stations in six years? That's hardly enough time to learn where the PX is at each post, much less anything else! How'd you pull that off?

I am a quick learner. I have been here at Campbell for a couple of months. I feel it is important to diversify your Army resume. Staying in some place has perks, too. I prefer the route I went.

It's a channel for favoritism through promotions and awards through outside means from the Army itself. Therefor it has no place in the Army and deserves to perish.

everyone wants proof of the favoritism and acts that go on, there is no proof, its a secret society ;+)

If its a Secret Society, how do you know about it? Exactly. Its a Society with secrets. The Masons that you have seen are problably using it for the wrong reasons but most are doing good things for people around them everyday.

SF and DELTA do a lot of secret squirrel things, but we know about them too, right?
