In a time when the mainstream news media and political columnists twist just about everything politicians say and do to support their companies or their own agenda who do we turn to to find out the truth?
Fact checking websites.
They are in fact the unsung heroes of the news world. Actually doing the legwork required of journalists to ferret out the truth they twisted. In a world where opinion columns are passed off as fact and columnists either only tell part of the truth or outright lie about the events and meaning in the words people say we have fact checkers who investigate the investigative journalists and bloggers to see if what they say and do is in fact the truth.
The pure FACT of the matter is this........we will blindly accept the lie if it coincides with our beliefs and we agree with what the journalist is saying even if what they say (or don't say) stretches that truth.
But in all things reality must shine through. Because even some of those fact checking websites have their own biases and agendas that must be tended to.
So who fact checks the fact checkers? We do, and we do that by not getting our news only from places and people who agree with us. Wise men and women get their news from many different place with many different ideas and ideologies and make up their own minds on what can and cannot be believed.

No! Independent citizen journalists. If you get a degree in an indoctrination college of excellence, you might be a brainwashed snowflake hack.

There is a difference between education and indoctrination. When colleges routinely suppress free speech, the students aren't exposed to different ideas which leads to independent critical thought; i.e., rational, reasoned objectivity.

You haven't been paying attention have you? Have you ever heard of yvette felarca at berkley? She is advocating the silence of anyone and violence toward anyone who doens't think like her. What's sad is that berkley, the home of the free speech movement, is actively suppressing or making it extremely difficult to express anything but left wing/communist-centric speech. I'd suggest starting here...

Cpl (Join to see) - I read a few of those articles and mostly it was student lead protests not backed by the schools. When a school has stopped the meetings of people like Shapiro or Prager it was usually for safety reason since those two were getting death threats and because of incidents that happened during that time. There are the occasional administrators that get in on it, but those cases are usually few and far between and that teacher or professor is sanctioned or fired.
By and large the lack of conservative voices is usually quelled by the students and not the schools. But this also happens to liberal students at conservative schools across the country, it isn't as one sided issue as many people would like you to think. What I do blame the schools for is letting the professors take sides instead of supporting ALL students to safely express their thoughts and opinions. I believe it is important for children and young adults to learn how to express themselves in a healthy manner and hear out those they do not agree with.
But those students on both sides of the isle are learning valuable lessons from their over zealous approach to free speech. And I believe it is a vital step they must take on the road to self awareness and awareness of others. If you want to be heard, you have to be willing to let others be heard as well, as your view isn't the only one and you are not necessarily correct no matter how fervent you are in your belief.
That is where colleges and universities are failing, they aren't indoctrination factories, they are failing to teach our children a valuable lesson in free speech.
