Are there any circumstances that would prompt you to volunteer to fight ISIS?

‘‘That was my first kill,’’ [Lawton] said. ‘‘Kinda weird, but I had a nightmare that night.’’
‘‘About the militant?’’ I asked.
‘‘It’s hard to explain,’’ he said. ‘‘You know these [ISIS] guys are animals, but even with that knowledge … ’’ He trailed off. ‘‘You know you have to let the brain figure it out on its own,’’ he said. ‘‘He pointed the R.P.G. at me. He would have taken me and my friend. It was hard for me. Killing people, you know you are here to do it. But then, when it happens, and you see it. It’s different. He just exploded.’’
We walked together up the road toward the village. Barley fields spread for miles all around us. ‘‘A couple days later, I was good,’’ he said. ‘‘Ever since then, it’s been no problem. I just have to remember the videos.’’
He meant the videos of Foley [being beheaded], of the Syrian soldiers [being summarily executed en masse]. He looked down and softened the earth with his boot. ‘‘See,’’ he said. ‘‘I have a big heart, and I never pictured myself actually doing it. I like to see the good in everybody.’’

When it comes to defending my home and family you're goddamned right I'll kill or be killed. That's if the pinko left hasn't already confiscated my guns and ability to defend myself and my Country

Personally, if I could, I would go over there and fight ISIS directly. However, from what I heard, just going over there is enough to make flying there a freakin' nightmare.

The NYT article did an excellent job describing the obstacles and unmet expectations that other volunteers have encountered, especially when working with the less-disciplined Kurds. I would be very frustrated with the experience.

1) CMC Says "Looking for volunteers"
2) President Says "Looking for volunteers"
3) SecDef/Nav/Army/AF/etc, or top generals say something similar. I'm sure I could fit into a set of utilities.

No I will be 80 years old on 10 November & all I can do now is tell Sea Stories about the "Old Corps".. or humorous tales about Chesty, Gen Al Gray, & Ted Williams.
