How may I help you? I just relinquished my responsibilities as a First Sergeant for a Basic Training battery recently here on Fort Sill (was also a DS here 10 years ago as well).

Yes. Both. You are no different than any other Soldier on the team. Same for sponsorship too. Most of our "turtle" NCOs come from an OCONUS location, so it's imperative that both sides are talking. Ensure you have a sponsor before you arrive and before you sign into post. It puts a negative spotlight on us if the sponsor isn't present when you do. Keep your mind at ease; you're going to be okay.
ENSURE you meet APFT & ABCP! We've had a few NCOs that failed to do so. You don't want to start off on the "wrong foot".
Your BDE and below command teams are excellent! Rest assured, you will be prepared and a different NCO when you leave for school and your tour of duty. Best wishes.

I remember being a Battery Commander of Echo Battery, 5th Training Battalion in 1981. BCT is still there as far as I know which means there are Drill Sergeants.
