Hey LT Hrdlicka- my recommendation would be to seek out as much information from current AC officers as you can. There are two primary concentrations AC officers can pursue:51A and 51C. Seek out the 51Cs on your installation to find out what they do and what AC life is like. I'm a 51A and you are more than welcome to PM me to ask questions about the 51A side. Currently, I would advise getting as much as experience on the tactical side as you can. I think you can assess between 6-8 years in the Army and will have to have at least one CPT KD eval IOT submit a VTIP packet. I hope this helps a bit.

Absolutely! Always good to be looking ahead and planning. I would also recommend downloading and reviewing the DA PAM 600-3, there is a lot of good information in there as well.

Ma'am, I am a Logistics Captain with 9 years of service. Post Command. My Major board is in a few months. Assuming I make Major, is it too late to VTIP to FA51? Thank you.

Hey Chad- assuming I've done the math right, you are part of Cohort 2008. I pulled up the VTIP charts for 3rd QTR FY17. For the AC it is yellow, meaning there is a 6-20% transfer ability to the Acquisition Corps. So there is a chance. There are also some green FAs available and green means there is a greater than 20% transfer ability. Those are FA59, FA 52, FA 49, FA34, and FA30. If you want to transfer to any FA, I would recommend preparing your VTIP packet now so you can submit for the next board. I hope this helps and feel free to hit me up if you have other questions.

Feel free to send me a PM or email with any questions. It's not a bad gig.

Once you have completed Company Command it is a good career move. I was selected for the AAC and it was not a difficult choice. I transitioned to GS-15 after I retired from Defense Systems Management College. It is not an easy career though as managing cost, schedule and performance on Acquisition Programs is difficult.
