Aside from the technical aspects of identifying and defusing IEDs, there are a lot of things most people don't know about them in general. Check out some interesting facts from an expert here!: http://bit.ly/2pxvVMX

I was a CIED instructor for about 5 years. I was most surprised by what the majority of people DIDN'T know. Kind of an epic fail across the board for training

We were instrumental in teaching (and arming) a fledgling rebel group that later became Al Qaeda how to make them better so that they could defeat the Soviets. In the 80's I was an instructor and in the 2004 I went to help undo what I did.

Didn't find the link to be helpful at all. I will say, though, that in Iraq I was surprised to find out how easily blasts scrambled random electronics

Are there facts about IEDs that you don't think many people know, or were surprised to learn yourself??

The biggest surprise for my C-IED students, is that there are IEDs in CONUS. Most think it never happens here, or that it is extremely rare.
