Are you asking the Army as a whole or USAREC? I can say without hesitation that now that we are coming into the 21st century and no longer blocking social media from our networks we are getting better but due to past decisions made many levels above our pay grades we are playing catch up to be at the same level as many of the big industry in terms of marketing and advertisement. We do offer the greatest careers that anyone could ever imagine. NO ONE in the industry could ever expect to do what we do. We find these applicants, interview them, then we hand walk them through the process. If you wanted to go get a job making $15 an hour you would have to do all the leg work to include searching for the job to making your resume. With USAREC the Recruitier/ Soldiers are the reason we have the greatest customer service in the industry.

USAREC was making leaps and bounds before I left Army recruiting back in January. I have transitioned into a civilian recruiting position. Having learned the tricks of the trade and the tools used in our new digital recruiting environment, USAREC has a long way to go to get caught up. Virtual prospecting for candidates and social media prospecting are the most stressed activities within our organization. We operate almost entirely through social media campaigns on Facebook, snapchat, Twitter, instagram, LinkedIn and a multitude of other host sites. Campaigns are tailored and phones are used for the interview process. If a social media campaign is conducted appropriately, you will have more prospects than you can process in a single day. I know that USAREC as a whole is pushing more towards social media and digital recruiting, but unless things have changed, there needs to be a severe retraining of the entrenched leadership that is still of the mindset that cold calls are the end all and be all of recruiting. Cold calls have their place in recruiting, but they can't be your entire prospecting plan. 10 years ago when every number provided led to a home phone, it was a much more successful prospecting tool, but nowadays the quickest way to reach your target audience is through their cell phone, their tablet or their computer. I think y'all are headed in the right direction, but you have a long way to go.
