I would expect most military folks to say they are extroverts, but I served 30 years on active duty and I'm an introvert. Maybe I'm an exception to the rule that I have in my head.
I do think that extroverts succeed more easily in the military because it's an institution that rewards outgoing and Type A personalities, in general.
So, what are you? Introverted? Extroverted? Somewhere in between? And do you think your place on the scale helped or hurt you in the military?
If you're not sure, here's a quiz (one of many on the web) to help you determine your "status."

The masks we wear, SFC Michael Hasbun. That's an excellent point! Thanks for your reply.

This a great question I like to think a am a balance of both. I teach and that in my opinion requires the extrovert side. However, I am also a person who enjoys time to focus and be at home. One would ask is it possible for a person to change for the situation?

That's probably key to success, SFC Stephen King: being able to adjust to the situation and be extroverted or introverted when the situation or the task at hand requires one or the other. Good answer. I'll bet that works well. The best of both worlds, as it were. Thanks for your reply.

I go to Meredith Manor International Equestrian College in WV! We have about 140 horses here and I absolutely love it! I tend to prefer animals over humans whether it's my sheppard or horses! :)

Good point! I had it backwards. Introverts prefer animals. I know I love spending quality time with our little chihuahua. :-)

And best of all they can't wake up in the morning and tell you they don't love you anymore!! ;)

I am mostly an extrovert, but I do have my secrets, then again. Don't we all?

Amen to that, SrA Edward Vong! Your mention of secrets made me think that introverts likely do better at jobs like intelligence analyst (on the whole, not that an extrovert can't succeed at it). I know I've been keeping secrets since 1979, when I started working in the counterintelligence field. We have our fair share of extroverts though, so maybe that thinking breaks down. I guess one just has to know when to keep one's mouth shut. Thanks for your reply.

I think we both do well in intelligence, they just tend to put the extroverts in careers where we may be speaking a little more. Otherwise, we'd go nuts!

I like this option...the "outgoing introvert."
8 Signs You May Be an Outgoing Introvert
There are introverts, extroverts, and then there’s you - falling somewhere in between.

I am both. It all depends on the situation I am in. My wife would say I am an extrovert though ;)

Seems like it's easier for an extrovert to become in introvert than the other way around. At least that's so, from an introvert's perspective.
