I did a little number crunching, and the results might surprise you.
COMBAT VET SURVIVAL RATE: 89%
THEATER VET SURVIVAL RATE: 79%
DEPLOYED VET SURVIVAL RATE: 85%
NON-DEPLOYED SURVIVAL RATE: 62%

If you served during the gulf war, but did not deploy - you are FOUR TIMES more likely to be dead right now than someone who saw combat. (This number includes those who died in combat too!)

Any thoughts on why this statistical anomaly is happening?

Yea, has there been anything newer than 1997 published? That is kind of old.
