Glint is the old silver stuff. IR is the black square. Same things (IFF) the new stuff just lasts longer.

Capt Richard I P.
SPC Jan Allbright, M.Sc., R.S. we put our IR tabs other places, mostly because we don't wear ball-caps.

I love "Spooky!" Nothing like the sound of those guns when they're keeping the bad guys outside of your position! The sight of that "neon red" stream pouring out of the side of that aircraft. And, the flares that turned night into day!

The Marine vet that was talking about the propeller attachment is a 'No Go' for OPSEC.

Still in the testing...of course the Corps still has not figured out how people are going to take replacing Propeller with Jar. I did hear they were getting ready to start implementing Propeller Head training during Basic by have Boots hold their K-Pots and forming a large circle and sound off with 'Whoop, whoop, whoop!" Of course this is just a rumor...that I just started.

The first gives you lift, the second keeps it from coming off your head, the third makes the ladies think you are really cool.

Of course the Army doesn't wear these, some units with really cool commanders DO wear them, but usually not in another footprint. Of course that doesn't include SOF, ODA and OGAs who are mistaken for regular Army folks at times.

Before reading the other comments, I had assumed it was to mount a small flashlight for night ops and keep your hands free for other stuff. I kinda want one now, flashlight is definitely what I would use it for.

It is for these things. I used to wear these on our boonies. But you have to wear a very small square. UAV can see you very easily. If you have a huge square up there you will flash out your surroundings.

Suspended Profile
Front: for flag or other hooah patch, back: name or callsign, top: IR tab.

Myself, I would like to think it is so you can attach a button like every other ball cap. Than you can feel like a civilian whenever you want!

The velcro on top is for the little square that is for ID when using night vision goggles. I have a patch on the front of mine of an M18A-1 that reads 'FRONT TOWARD ENEMY'. For the back I leave unused. usually a name tag goes there ...Now drop your self !!
