Hi fellow soldiers,
I just got direct commissioned as a chaplain in the Army Guard about 2 weeks ago.
I was able to get my CAC card last week. With the CAC card, I was able to log in to MilConnect. MilConnect shows my army email address, but I cannot yet access the email.
Do you know when I will be able to? Who the point of contact is?
Thank you!

Once you get to your unit, you should get an assistant. His job is to take care of you physically, he carries a weapon, drive your jeep, etc. Also, get you up to speed on Army stuff and paperwork. Finally, help set up and take down from Chapel Services.

I am a retired Army chaplain, I was also enlisted and a Chaplain assistant. Please feel free to call upon me at any time. I live in Florida. So if you are here I would be honored to be an encourager for you.

Regarding your question about how to access your .mil email, I presume that you want to access it when you are not drilling or in the office where you drill. If so, you will want to ask your command about accessing your .mil email through Outlook Web Access (OWA). It is CAC enabled and requires the email cert on your CAC so you'll need a card reader. See:

CH (1LT) (Join to see), from your question and the timeframe on your commission (two weeks), I am making a SWAG that you haven't even drilled with your first unit. All this SHOULD be explained to you when you arrive and in-process. However, it's also something that often times falls though the cracks with the reserve component (or, more often, you get 'unofficial' directions of how one of your peers does it).

Rather than restating everything on the website, head to the Colorado National Guard's site* where they have a great briefing for NG Soldiers (just ignore the parts that are "Colorado" specific). This should get you down the route of setting up your profile and accessing your email.

Another great site is the directions from the Army Enterprise desk - https://www.dodreads.com/links/popular-army-web-links/army-email/

However, if you don't have a CAC reader at home, you're out of luck until you get one (go to Military CAC.com* for info) and/or you can get to your unit.
