Great question SFC Guy. I believe that SSG Hasbun cracked the nut on this one by mentioning "genuinely caring." That is a very important trait in a leader. Our Soldiers, while part of a great team, are also individual human beings. There is something different that makes each on of them tick, to listen, to lash out, to help, to hinder, etc. We as leaders need to understand that and also need to understand what motivates our Soldiers. Once that is identified, it can be built upon for the betterment of the Soldier, his/her family and the unit as a whole. Mission accomplishment is the end state for all leaders and units. By understanding and mentoring our Soldiers, we ensure that they are performing to their maximum ability and in a way that ensures unit mission success. Everybody wins.
