"Operation Inherent Resolve"
No Boots On The Ground! That's what Obama said. Now, in 2016, 500 soldiers are going to Iraq to "Train Iraq's Military." How long does it take to train Iraq's military? As long as it takes evidently. I'm not sure they can be trained to fight. They remind me of the ARVN's in Vietnam. Some were good soldiers and fighters, and some liked how they looked in a uniform, but would run at the first crack of a weapon. Either that, or go to the other side if they were losing. You decide. It ticks me off.

The U.S. Army is sending 500 soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) to Iraq and Kuwait in early 2016 to advise and assist Iraqi Security Forces.
The 101st headquarters element will assume the role of Combined Joint Forces Land Component Command-Iraq, replacing the 82nd Airborne Division headquarters, according to a Nov. 6 Army press release.
During the nine-month deployment, the division headquarters will provide command and control of coalition troops that are training, advising, and assisting Iraqi forces as part of Operation Inherent Resolve to combat militants affiliated with the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.
About 1,300 paratroopers from 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 82nd Airborne Division recently returned from a nine-month mission of training Iraqi army units as part of the advise-and-assist mission. During that deployment, the 3rd BCT formed in teams and helped to train about 12,400 new Iraqi army soldiers. The teams also worked every day with Iraqi Ground Forces Command.
Iraqi army units are currently fighting in the counterattack to retake Ramadi from militant fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
The 101st HQ began preparing for the 2016 deployment in late summer.
"Operation Inherent Resolve has been the focus of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Headquarters for the last three months," said 101st commander Maj. Gen. Gary J. Volesky.
"Going back to 1942, Screaming Eagle soldiers have always answered our nation's call to duty with pride and tenacity," said Volesky. "This tough mission is our next 'Rendezvous with Destiny' - and we are ready for

I totally feel that it's wasted time and money. If the citizens of Iraq love their freedom as much as we love ours, they would do all in their power to safeguard it as strongly as we do. Just like I believe that if they want democracy they would do the same.

SFC Richard Lee, I believe that also Of course they would fight for what they want. Our ancestors did, without much training, because they had drive and guts, and knew how it would be if they lost. IMO, the Iraqis, on the other hand, want someone else to do it for them, and they don't care who that would be. It's totally frustrating.

What a huge waste. At the first sign of ISIS the IRAQI Army will jump out of tanks and trucks and RUN. You can't train for COURAGE.

SGT Rick Ash, Why do you think they are like that? Are they really that ignorant that they don't understand what's going on with the training and why they are training? Or, are they really cowards? They have to have some pride..

SGT (Join to see) - I think they understand but they have witnessed first hand the atrocities committed by ISIS and they are genuinely fearing for their own life. ISIS is a vicious group and growing daily. They are so well organized and discipline is so strict they have been turned into a very deadly force. It makes no sense, you are in a tank and ISIS is coming with their Toyota pickups. Why get OUT of your tank and run away? Start firing!
Thanks,
Rick

Thanks SGT Rick Ash. That's the question. Why? They have to realize they have the superior fire power over a tank verses a pickup truck. It just amazes me.

It is an absolute waste of time and money. We can teach them and they will learn. That isn't the issue. The issue is their culture. They don't do anything, Allah does. Everything there is "Inshallah".

MSgt John Carroll, Allah must be pissed at them. They haven't had much to praise him for lately. I'm not making fun of their God. That's just the way it is. We are blessed everyday in America. They are not that fortunate. IMHO

MSgt (Join to see), That's what they said about the SF sent to Vietnam to train the ARVN soldiers. It went about the same way it's going in Iraq. Although, the ARVN attached to a SF unit were good fighters. But that could be a problem too. We inserted a squad of SF and ARVN troops strictly for observation only. They got attacked by the Viet Kong, and it was found out one of the ARVN had a relative with the VC, and the ARVN gave him the location and time they would be there. So, you really couldn't trust any Vietnamese, civilian or military.

One of the things that have bothered me most is the spin of the administration. And many are swallowing it hook line and sinker. "No boots on the ground" Not combat troops" etc etc, is there some forcefield I'm unaware of. I'm afraid the Master Sergeant is not the last to lose his life for this cause.

MSgt (Join to see), Like the hat BTW, Honestly, I don't think he will be the last. You send more troops, you have more deaths and critical injures. I don't know if these troops are seasoned, or green. I hope they are seasoned and know what to look for.

It will only work if the soldiers they are training have a desire to see their country succeed and I doubt that they actually do

Yes. America does not have the money nor the patience to truly fix the problems that exist in the middle east.

SGM Mike Barbieri, I thought that was all settled with the Democrats, not wanting to send anymore troops to Iraq, because it's a lost cause. Our men and women don't need to be there.

Is not a lost cause. There are good people there, but we don't have the resolve to overcome centuries of cultural repression nor do we have the money to find such an exercise.

SGM Mike Barbieri - Sergeant Major; Not only does America not have the money or patience to "fix the problems that exist in the Middle East", the odds are that the people who see the United States as actually having caused the problems that exist in the Middle East aren't likely to accept the US "fixing" those problems.

[PLEASE NOTE:- When dealing with people "reality" is what people perceive it is and not necessarily what it actually is - so the above should NOT be taken as a statement to the effect the "The United States of America caused the problems that exist in the Middle East." but only to the effect that "Many of the people in the Middle East THINK that the United States of America is responsible for causing all the problems that exist in the Middle East.". The fact of the matter is that the French and British were responsible for creating the situations which caused many of the problems in the Middle East. The United States of America only inherited those situations (and wasn't averse to accepting the benefits of them.]

What in God's good name are we doing???!! But I guess if we don't train and arm them, we would have nobody to fight.
