As a Servicemember, when the President says things like this, what do you think it means?

Should we expect to go to war to stop North Korea from this goal? We know they are already close to having the capability. Do public statements like this encourage more aggressive actions from dictators like KJU?
What is the strategic goal of a public statement like this? What do you think he hopes to accomplish?

Major you probably know better than I that this is hyperbolic bullshit. (Un saying it, not your questions). Oh, I'm sure he means it, and I'm sure he thinks he'll be capable of it, but the reality is is that his one-off missiles have a very poor likelihood of 1. surviving their inexperience in shrinking nuclear payloads to an effective ICBM size, and 2. getting past our countermeasures. He isn't Russia, much as he'd like to think he is. Fat Boy Leader is just throwing yet another tantrum.

You know the NORKS are going to read your post calling him fat boy.
I bet he launches.
Do you remember the great Chicago fire story? An old lady milking a cow and the cow kicked over a lantern. That's you pal.

Cpl Mark A. Morris - I already live in one of the only states he could possibly hit (Oregon), but I'm not too worried. A single fighter pilot can stop the one or two missiles he could maybe/probably/possibly launch this far. Never mind a Ticonderoga-class Cruiser.

SN Greg Wright - I bet you are close to some Bigfoot sightings then. I loved northern CA. I did a contract there in the late 90's.

Cpl Mark A. Morris - NorCal, sure. South, I could cheerfully give back to Mexico. And I was born in Lake Arrowhead.

Just another example of how this man has no clue of what it means to be The POTUS. He thinks its all a game he can play with his Twitter account.

How did you feel about Obama as Commander-in-Chief? Since you don't feel Trump has a clue, I felt the same about Obama. However, he has proven me right. Just curious? How do you feel about the concept of leading from behind? I, for one, can not wrap my head around that.

Not a fan of him either and never voted for him. What does the outgoing president have to do with the incoming president's tendency to act like a childish moron?

Whenever I hear of North Korea pulling some stunt, I am reminded about the movie The Mouse That Roared. It's basically about an impoverished country who declares war on the US in order to lose so the US can swoop in with financial aide to build up the economy and infrastructure. Sound familiar...
Personally, I don't believe North Korea is anywhere close to being a real threat and with their great dictator executing half his family and cabinet, I wouldn't be surprised if his head ends up on a pike one of these days.
North Korea is going to bluster all day long. That's why we have intelligence briefs to determine the accuracy of these blusters. I don't anticipate going to war with North Korea anytime soon. I find it far more likely that a bomb would just happen to drop on his palace in the middle of the night.
I do not believe that public statements cause dictators to become more aggressive. Trump didn't create KJU. Trump wasn't even running for President when KJU inherited the throne and then proceeded to publicly execute his family members and high ranking officials.
So no... dictators are going to act like dictators no matter how we act publicly. Remember, we let the Nazis and the Third Reich run wild in Europe. It wasn't until the Kamikazes attacked us that we joined the fight.
The strategic goal of a public statement like this should be obvious. To calm the fears of the general public and hint a bit of a warning at enemies. We don't want to look weak in public. So you put on a tough façade. If you're lucky, that will be enough to keep an enemy in check.
