Should awards be given for completing a certain school (Ranger, Airborne, EFMB, Air Assault, ect...)? I believe honor grads should receive an award. However, I have seen individuals receive AAMs just for completing the school. This goes back to some units giving out awards like candy...watering down the system...while a Soldier in another unit does the same or more and does not get an award...the potential low performer who gets all those awards (same MOS, ect...) gets promoted faster and gets better positions.

Your award is the Badge or Tab you earn as a result of graduating. If I am not mistaken, most schools have leadership, distinguished graduate, or honor graduate awards the course commandant uses to recognize personnel who go the extra mile during the course.
Having said that, awards are meant to recognize accomplishments that are achieved "by few". I would not have heartburn if my BC wanted to give an AAM to a troop that gets DHG at NCOES or some such, if for no other reason than to publicize and celebrate excellence and give the Soldiers something to aspire toward.

I have put soldiers in for completing a school twice. In both cases they were the honor grad and in one case the soldier got above 280 on his APFT as well. right or wrong I felt that was worthy of something. I did get an AAM for the soldier with the school and APFT. I didn't argue with the other being downgraded to a certificate because it got us a 6 year enlistment for showing the soldier we cared.
