The Ninth Configuration (1980)
Directed by William Peter Blatty. With Stacy Keach, Scott Wilson, Jason Miller, Ed Flanders. A new commanding officer arrives at a remote castle serving as an insane asylum for crazy and AWOL U.S. Army soldiers where he attempts to rehabilitate them by allowing them to live out their crazy fantasies while combating his own long-suppressed insanity.

The Boys of Company C, directed by Sidney J. Furie, was a 1978 film about United States Marines in the Vietnam War. It was among the first Vietnam War films ...
"The Boys of Company C" is one I would say is over looked and under-rated. I saw this movie the evening before I left to MCRD San Diego.

CSM (Join to see) When Luke Skywalker still had a shot to branch out as an actor. Corvette Summer, and Jay and Silent Bob is all I know about his acting career sans The Force.

Skywalker has done lots of voice acting. Pretty sure he is the voice of Joker and some others

SGT (Join to see) All great movies but definitely not underrated. What is one of those military flicks that you know of that most people didn't even know existed?

I seem to remember "The boys of Company C" being very accurate if not a very shoot em up. Most portrayals of Vietnam just really pissed me off. Although, at one time or another during that conflict, I believe everything that could happen, DID happen. They did not happen in one day, or every day!

Cpl Dennis F. When the boys OBVIOUSLY threw the soccer game to the ARVN to appease the PR officer. I was almost wetting myself!

I can’t find that movie online for free anywhere. None of the streaming services. I’m going to have to buy another copy.

A generational divide you don’t hear much about it anymore. I would say the fight and 69th with Jimmy Cagney ranked up there.

In no particular order here:
--Windtalkers, starting Nicholas Cage. About the Navajo Codetalkers in the Pacific theater of WWII.
--From Here to Eternity. Youngins like me have Pearl Harbor, others are for Tora Tora Tora. From Here to Eternity is the Pearl Harbor movie our parents/grandparents watched.
--Day of the Siege. It's a foreign film, but it's about the Siege of Vienna in the 17th century by the Ottoman empire, and the charge of the Hussars in my opinion was very well done.
--Full Metal Jacket. All Marines know this one, and most know this one for R Lee Ermey's superb acting as the Senior Drill Instructor.
--HBO mini series Generation Kill. I haven't read the book yet, but this mini series gave a refreshing non-politically correct perspective of the Iraq ground war in 2003 and how bad leadership hampers down on everyone. It's also cool to me that Rudy plays himself.
--The Guardian. Coast Guard's only movie that I know of, but it's a solid one. Part of me can't help but wonder if the rescue diver who got his debut in Kerrsville, TX joined the Coast Guard as a rescue diver because of this movie...
--Tuskegee Airmen. We watched this in JROTC. I consider this a better movie than Red Tails which came out a few years ago. If you don't know who the Tuskegee Airmen are you should look them up. A-grade certified badass bunch of dudes.
