Can a soldier who is married and receiving BAH be forced to reside in the barracks? Any regulations supporting it?

Yes they can. I am case in point. My (now) ex-wife and I were split. She moved back to her home state to start divorce proceedings. We were living in On Post Housing. I was ordered to vacate and clear housing and move into the barracks. BAH was initiated as I was to pay her the BAH until the divorce was final.

Many a time a leader has asked the CO to restrict a married person to the barracks for any violations- late/tardiness/missing formations/missing equipment, etc. The list can be massive, living in quarters is a privilege- not a right. Hell screw up with the housing people and thetr regs and you will be on the street!

Leaving post to go home, married or not, is a pass privilege that can be revoked by a commander.

You're not being forced to reside in the barracks. You were confined to the barracks, completely within a Commanders authority. If you were forced to reside in the barracks you would have to actually move your stuff into the barracks. You "reside" in a residence, your residence is still your home even when you are confined.

With the limited information provided the answer is yes. As SGM Frazer stated, there are many reasons a leader would request a Soldier be remanded to the barracks. What should be happening is that the Soldier correct the issue that brought them to that place, and continue down a solid path. No-one wants to separate you from your Family, however, good order and discipline is what is required and this is one of the tools they have at their disposal. Correct the problem.

What’s the context? Is there a pending troop movement? Are you being punished? Something happened or is about to happen that caused this decision to occur.

The short answer is yes and the long answer it depends on the situation as Commanders have discretion to make such decisions.

Sorry I don't have the reg but yes there is one stating some stipulations. And also remember housing is not for the soldiers its for the family or spouse.

Every unit needs to spend a few weeks, maybe a month, in the field. A five mile full pack hike once a week would help too. If you wanted to sit in an office why would you join the military

Yes. Depending on the circumstances and it can be done to actually help you. Main example, you and the spouse having issues. 1SG can have you stay in a "cool down" room in the barracks so you guys can go to MFAP and work your issues out.
