An old friend of mine randomly posted a photo of himself in OCP’s with LTC rank. He told everyone that he just joined the Army Rerserves. I asked him what unit, and he told me it’s the 101st Airborne. He has a BS in nursing. He’s 45 years old. He’s not on ako or on enterprise. My question is, does this story smell fishy?

The only way I can see this being legit is him being a VERY specialized nurse with enough experience that he was brought in as an O5 in a Reserve unit. Besides that, I think he is full of it

Yes! First there is no "S" in reserve. When joining you must be able to complete 20 years by age 60. Do the math. It approx 25 years to make LTC. THE 101ST ABN dose exist in the reserves component. Starting out with a BS in nursing and a license will get you captain rank. A little short of LTC. HOPE THIS HELPS.

He is full of something... it might be an insult to shit to say he is full of that. A BS in nursing, no matter how much experience you have is not going to commission you to O5. In most cases you have to have a masters to be competitive for Major in the NC

Did your friend post just one picture on line? Was he wearing an airborne beret and jump wings on his uniform and the airborne tab? If not I'd say he's faking it. Reservists rarely "join" the regular military units, unless they screw up .

It is possible but not probable.
Some are direct commissioned at higher ranks because of special skills and experience.
it happens more during war times, Pece time's.
You may want to ask him about O.C.S. And how if was commissioned. Then say somthing like how cool it would be to see His O.C.S. Class photo or his commissiioning paper work.
If his get butt hurt in any way about it. FOR SURE HE IS FULL OF SHIT.
I did this in the past it worked.

I have a PhD, and an Army recruiter told me according to the mos, you can come in at advanced ranks. When I was in the Army, I came in as an E-5. With my PhD I could re-enlist as a Major. So LTC, possibly, but not likely.

How well do you know him?
The medical officer corps, in the past, have put together some tremendous recruiting programs; like skill sets...dentists, specialty docs, et. al. This could be such a case.
However, You appear very suspicious. That to me is a red flag.
You could invite some banter about his ID card, etc., and produce yours for a look at his.
