When I
Left Germany in 2010 they were closing down Baumholder or sending the majority back to the states. Not a lot of assignments left in Germany

I was there in the late 70s as well. Over 400,000 soldiers, hundreds of kasernes, logistics bases, training areas, etc. and nose to nose with the Red Menace. Despite our winning the Cold War I think the former Soviet Union has the upper hand there now!

It’s not like that anymore when I got to Baumholder in 2004 we had the highest concentration of combat troops in Germany. Talking to some of my friends now that are still over there it is not like that anymore it’s a ghost town and a lot of the other bases are too.

SGT Edwards,
While it may not function properly all the time the ACT (Army Career Tracker, accessible through AKO) has an ability to conduct a duty position search under the Plan section. You can narrow the search down to only positions by grade and mos and several other categories. I use the UIC's that show in the ACT tool to pull the units up in FMSweb and see a little more information about the unit.

FMSweb is a website where you can look up Army MTOEs by component, MOS, and command. This will tell you where you can go worldwide based on your MOS. The follow on would be working with your S1 clerks who have EDAS, which can tell you what's available for your MOS based on your DEROS. Then ultimately your branch manager.

Branch Manager - get to know them, they are the best way to manage your career options.

Ask retention if they can find assignment with 5th signal BDE or 2nd strategic signal BDE

A good tool would be branch or retention. They usually can see what's available in the system.
