I just got and EFMP assignment for Scott AFB Illinois with a DEROS of Oct 15. I have been asking around and apparently it is not the 375th port or 375th LRS? SO what and where is it?

Krystle...it is the AMC Staff. I'm not sure why they don't just call it Hq AMC A4.

I can't tell you EVERYTHING....and it has been YEARS since I was at Scott AFB (left in July 2002). The base is 375th Wing (not sure if Air Lift or what). In addition to the 375th, you also have AMC HQ and TRANSCOM HQ on base. Obviously, neither of these are actually 375th, as they are higher headquarters.... If I remember correctly from when I was there, the Base Commander was an O-6....but there were something like 17+ General Officers (all branches) assigned there because of the 2 HQ units. There is also IL ANG with KC135 Refuelers on the back side of the base. With all that being said, I would suspect that you will be assigned to the AMC Building on Scott. Not sure if they have more then 1 building, but I know that both of the HQ units have a distinct building for a majority of their operations. Hope this helps, and I would suspect that there are others that have been there more recently, OR are there now. The 375th MDG provides the medical support for the 2 HQ units.

Having once been assigned to HQ AMC communications, I know that we tracked the air assets for every AMC base and transport aircraft (C-5, C-17, C-141 and a handful of C-130s) around the world. Logistics involvement will be special though, because all AMC functions exist at Scott AFB to support the different branches of service HQ there--USTRANSCOM--The US Transportation Command. Imagine these Generals and staff needing to know where any asset is at a specific point in time, whether transported by air, land or sea. We only provide the air portion of the status as HQ AMC. You'll be saluting a lot--officers, and foreign officers as you leave and depart every building on base. It's a very busy and challenging assignment, but you'll love it, and it will definitely boost your career!
