Is it possible to register for ILE (I think it would only be DL) as a Jr. Captain? I was promoted July 2023 and want to be as strong of a candidate as possible to pick up when the time comes. I'm AMEDD, so I know it will be at the zone and not below. I am finishing up Company Command (already past my 2-year mark, but I am able to do a warm hand-off with the incoming Commander). Once complete in early 2025 I will pick up some additional duty schools but I also want to get started on ILE.

No. TRADOC will only allow Captains if they've been selected for promotion and have finished their CCC (AR 350-1*, 3-39b).

I did know a USAR Captain that completed CGSOC before he was promotable, but that was due to his being a dual-status DA Civilian and attended in his DAC role.

Thank you for the response, sir. Everything I was looking at sounded like it couldn't happen but the main reason for asking was I saw a document that said non-promotable CPTs were only authorized to attend DL ILE. I've included the link, and I am referring to slide 3. It can read (to me) non-promotable applicants are limited to DLE.

1LT (Join to see) - It doesn't say "non-promotable Captains can attend ILE", it says "All other officers must complete via TASS or DL." I look at that comment as a badly worded follow-on to "**As of FY19, only CPTs selected for promotion to MAJ will be boarded for resident and satellite ILE opportunities."

In other words, if you're not selected to attend resident or satellite ILE, then you'll go through TASS or DL ILE.

If you want other sources
● Per HRC*, "All Reserve Component (RC) Captains (Promotable) (AGR and Non-AGR) are eligible to attend ILE upon completion of their branch or functional area prerequisite level education."
● Per the College itself (CGSOC)* - Who is eligible for enrollment in CGSOC-DL? AR 350-1 authorizes all Army Officers in the rank of O–3 (if promotable) or O–4 who are CCC graduates

However, I would take the clear requirements out of the regulation over an unclear comment on a PowerPoint slide (even if the ARCG put the brief together).

Don't you need your Captain's Career Course completed first? You do for Non-medical.
We will have to ask.

Yes, sir. That's correct. I will finish my final phase of CCC this Dec. One of the reasons why I am trying to see if I can continue my Mil Ed or if I will need to wait. AMEDD is still over strength on the RC side, so I'm trying to make sure I am a strong candidate for promotion when the time comes.

1LT (Join to see) I knew a CPT who did ILE after CCC. I can't recall his TIG.
