To go off of my last question many of you helped me with, they gave the top 10 soldiers for the prior service guys the opportunity to get shipped if we went 11C, i volunteered just to get out of here quicker. I've been told i could switch to 11B once i get to my duty station by putting in a 4187 packet. Is it really that easy ? Also do 11C get slots a lot of slots for airborne ? i want to go airborne as well.

Can I just say, slow down young man. You may even like being a mortar man. A little 11C time will make you a better platoon sargeant when that time comes. I’m sure you’ll be a great infantry man no matter what you decide.

Ah the wonderous Form 4187, which carries absolutely no weight whatsoever if submitted by a Soldier of low rank. Eventually, they will get tired of the 4187 submissions and let your 1SG know your submitting extraneous paperwork in which case you will be told to stop. At any rate, to answer your question 11C's are taught everything a 11B is taught. So it is just a matter of waiting for the inevitable oversupply of 11C's and shortage of 11B's. The pendulum seems to always swing both ways. Then ask your 1SG if you can switch officially in your records.

Stay as you are, learn that equipment as your life depended on it, because in war time many will depend on you. 11B is not what you think it is. You can Go from a 11b to a 11c in a heart beat. It all depends where they need you the most, in other words Fill a gap. First ask yourself why am I in a hurry, and for what. Are you looking for Raise in pay, rank, location, etc. if so then take you time. It's like buying a new home you don't want to rush in and buy anything and later you are not satisfied with what you purchase. 11B is not a MOS everybody wants to be. In time of War that's one thing many wish they were not. Don't do it for the glory, it's not that great. Be proud just being a United States Soldier. the rest will come. Believe me I know I was a 11B 68-69-70 Vietnam.

Not going to happen brother. Look at it this way, Chucks usually kill more per shot that Bravos. Anything that expanded my killing radius I was a fan of. One of the Mortar Course Instructors was the BDE S3 NCOIC before he retired. There’s a lot of knowledge on that side of the house.

SGT (Join to see) Direct lay with the ‘60 is an awesome experience. If you decide indirect fire isn’t for you, pass Ranger School and do the 4187 request like previously mentioned. Everything that you learn now will be an asset later.

It's not that easy, but it's not that hard either.
When you get to your duty station you will have to request a memo from the Infantry proponent stating you're qualified in the MOS. You take that to the Career Counselor who will send the request to HRC for a Reclass without Training. HRC decides based on the strengths of the MOS whether or not to change your MOS.
Yes, there are Airborne 11C, and there is always a need in the 75th for 11C if you really want a challenge.

SGT (Join to see) Math? Not really. The mortar ballistic computer does most of the calculations for you. I would go to the Mortar’s Leaders Course so you can learn how to use it like a pro, but if you want to rain death it will take time, patience, and training. it was always my favorite weapon when I was an 18B.

Needs of the gaining unit, the best answer is to see what they need and how open they are to you changing over. My son is an 11C and Big Army is short chucks.

SGT (Join to see) - Things may have changed since my day but when I was a young 11B being promoted to SSG (the first time) I was awarded the secondary of 11C. There is nothing wrong with being a Chuck, I trained as chuck dropping 81mm on targets and illuminating and had a great time. Embrace being a Chuck, be the best that you can be so when and if you go straight Infantry you can share with your squad mates and also teach them how to effectively call for and coordinate for mortar support. A Chuck is still and Infantryman regardless of the humorous back and forth.

11C are typically a short comodity. As an 11C you can compete for the expert Infantry badge, or be awarded the CIB for service in combat zone. If you remain a Mortatman through E7 you could be a company 1SG and Operations SGT. There's also assignment to Weapons company 120MM Platoon. Being a Mortarman is nothing to sneeze at! Good luck!

I was an 11c that reclassify to 11b because we were over strength on 11c. I’ve never seen an over strength Mortar section but that was fine because someone was determined to send me to FT Hood when I wanted to go Light. Give it some time though Mortars are fun too.
