I’m currently scheduled to leave for basic in may and my mos is 31e 31b wasn’t available when I enlisted they said I could wait for the job or choose 31e I didn’t want to wait I don’t mind 31e either but I really prefer 31b I also want to deploy and I understand 31e don’t deploy much so is it possible while in basic or ait I can switch it to 31b? Or anything at all

Yeah I figured I have just seen people getting put into 31e at ait or basic I wondered if I could just do the same for 31b appreciate the response

thats not how that works. You sign a contract at MEPS which gives you a school slot. The only MOS that does that selective crap is 11XPVT (Join to see)

You can't change your MOS once you ship to Basic training.
If you really want to deploy, it's not about the job its about the unit you work in. There are plenty of 11B and 31B who aren't deploying now. If your really want to deploy, try out for the 75th Ranger Regiment. They deploy more than anyone, including SF

If you signed for 31E you are in the 31E pipeline. You can always ask but you will get told the same thing.

Unfortunately you are stuck as a 31E, but the good news is that when you come up for reenlistment you can change your MOS and because it is in the same category, the. It should be easier to switch.

Probably the only way you'd be able to switch to 31B would be if there was a severe shortage wherever you might end up stationed. That's how I got from 91B (Medic) to 95B (old MP MOS designation). I don't know if that would work today or not.

You can't just change your MOS in basic. Long story short, your recruiter "gotcha!".

Are you reserve component? If so the time to change MOS is after you get to your unit.
