Can I change my MOS or am I stuck until I can reclass a year from end of contract?

I enlisted back in September as a 94E and don’t ship for basic until 20180702. Long story short I’m having second thoughts about this MOS and want to be in a combat arms job. Is there anything I can do to change now or am I stuck until I can reclass a year from end of contract?

You are under no obligation at this time. Make it clear to your recruiter you have no intentions on backing out. You just want to look at other MOS's. Just be damn sure what you pick is what you want.

What? You want to trade a real skill set that can pay you a good living to do what exactly? Blow crap up? Carry stuff on your back for days on end, or go deaf from the equipment you are working on? GO get your head examined. Trust me there are only so many career fields for former 13 Bravo's (Field Artillery) 11 Bravo Infantry, 12 Bravo Combat Engineer, Don't do it. You will regret it.

You can renegotiate your contract, it's pretty easy just don't pick something you will hate for 3+ years

You could always go to your recruiter and change your MOS, but you'll lose any enlistment bonuses you may have received.
What are you doubting about your current MOS?

I just don’t want to be stuck at a desk. I want to be out fighting with my brothers by my side.

I've seen shower/laundry and cooks doing convoy security. I also like to note that the "fight" is more than just infantry operations, you need communications, fuel, intel, medical... There's a reason why the Army has so many corps. But hey, if it's what you want to do follow your passion.

I knew plenty of 94Es that were out patrolling streets in Iraq and running convoys in Afghanistan.

Dont choose echo. If you can change it. The points for E5 are allways maxed and you will be miserable watching your peers rank up faster than you. Dont get me wrong it can be pretty fun and you do learn a lot that you can take with you on the civ side. But if your planning on being a lifer change your MOS if you can.

Well, I am a 94E. I cannot say it is the best job in the world depending where you go but there are definite benefits. You won't learn anything at AIT anyways. You learn your job once you get to big Army. I like my job when I am actually on the bench fixing radios. Once you are a SGT or SSG depending on the unit, you are moved to maintenance manager position, PSG position or you get tagged for TRADOC instructor duty. Could be at Gordon or Lee depending where you are needed. It gets difficult to past E7. However, the ramp up may make it possible. I am transition to ROTC and going from SSG to 1LT.

"Won't learn anything at AIT". Has it changed that much? Because we had to spend 8 months at AIT learning all kinds of shit.

1LT (Join to see) Take a look at Timmy Wall. He started where this kid is and now look at him. Now he is your OIC. And an all around awesome dude.
I can tell you this now, don't be a 94E if you want to see action or promote, this is a dead end mos.

Of you reno, you can basically forget any kind of bonus. There’s also no guarantee you’ll find a job you want. You’ll pretty much be at the mercy of the guidance counselor and whatever jobs are available that day. Your recruiter won’t even be able to see what’s available to you until your current reservation is canceled.

Go see the Recruiter and tell them you need to get a new job. Nobody is forcing you to join the MILITARY.
