Question was answered thank you all for the input. Most of you told me to read the contract however I don't think you read the post.

My son transferred to Polk when he returned from Iraq but the unit was deployed to Afghanistan so he couldn't get what he wanted. So he worked out a trade with another unit and everything worked out for him.

The Retention NCOs are under pressure from their CoC to keep numbers in. Don't think for one second that they won't mislead you. ALWAYS check that what they say is verified in writing before you sign your name. Don't worry about hurting their feelings by suggesting they're dishonest. If the contract matches what they say, they'll feel vindicated. If it doesn't match and you still sign it, you're in for a lot more than some hurt feelings.

A re-enlistment contract is just that: a contract. When you have time to let a lawyer--even JAG-- look it over, you should.

SGT Cody Bush WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!! You should pay attention to what you were told!!! Your Sergeant Major thinks you have the potential for greater responsibility and career enhancement!! I learned something over a half a century ago when a senior non commissioned officer thinks you have potential, DO NOT ARGUE WITH HIM OR HER THEY ARE TRYING TO TAKE CARE OF YOU!!!!

I was given my papers to sign 5 minutes before my ceremony, and told the "regular army reenlistment option RCN:3305629" was my stabilization. With the retention code given by my unit it was explained that I would have another year added to my current stabilization here.
Update: Just found out that my retention code was lifted early so I could be reassigned. As this code is internal I have seen this a few times however it has always been at the request of the service member to choose a duty station, re-class or go to a special school, never for standard PCS.

SFC J Fullerton - Cannot agree more with your post. SGT Bush, you are responsible for yourself, if the contract was not correct, then YOU should have questioned, if not to your satisfaction, you DO NOT SIGN, until clarification and misunderstandings are hashed out, it is YOUR ceremony, you could have spoken to your CoC about discrepencies in the contract, they would understand postponing the ceremony. FFS, you are an NCO, you should know better than to sign contracts without fully understanding, otherwise how can you counsel Soldiers when they go out to purchase big ticket items??

If you were given a contract to sign and told you didn't have time to read it, then that was the first lie you should've spotted. Read it before you sign. Hold up the ceremony. Let them fume and glare and scream at you to hurry up. If they really want you to stay, they'll wait until you read the whole thing.

Cry me a river...to the tune of it ain't my fault. By the time you make SGT you should know better. With all of your whining I would lift your retention code early, just so I wouldn't have to listen to you cry. Everything goes under one heading...for the good of the Military, it is nothing new and is as old as the Military.

SGT Katie Robinson - At the time I was under the assumption that I could trust my retention NCO, I have learned otherwise. But I am sure you have never made a mistake in your life. Thank you for your advice, although it may come about 5 months too late.
