If I go from army guard to active duty and I'm scheduled for WLC in July but don't attend before I have to report, can they take my E5 rank? I was promoted before the new STEP system.

When I left the reserves and joined active duty I was able to keep my SGT/E-5. The difference is I attended PLDC WHILE I was in the reserves- the way it was explained to me is that since I completed all the requirements for the rank according to the active duty standards I was able to keep it- but I had to go needs of the army as far as duty station

You probably will. You will not get it back unless you marry the First Sgt's daughter. The Guard is a social club shit thru with cronyism, nepotism, and favoritism.

I'm not Army but I think it's where they need you and what they need and what the Regulations demand and if they are willing to bend.. Each Service has their plan.. so hope for the best ! I think if you are able to keep those stripes show your appreciation and go above and beyond the 125% in the performance of your duties, SGt. CARRY ON, SOLDIER !

Those regs change over the years, but I can tell you that when I jumped back active in '08 if you didn't have the leadership schools you stood to lose your rank. I kept mine because I had been to BNCOC years before hand. Also, you might as well wait and get WLC out of the way cause you have to go sooner or later.

From E-6 to E-2? It's been years since I retired but what the hell? Something fishy?

I went active in 2013. Unless it changed you will remain an e5. Honestly I was not going to join if they took away..good luck

i loss my rank when i went active. I was also with a E-6 that was busted down to e-4 due to in/out rules. It was logical due to the fact I was promoted in the reserves and not in the new MOS. Took a little over a year to go to the board but it was worth it. You just have to overcome the reserve/national guard stigma.

Strange. If you hold several MOSs when you get promoted it is not only for that MOS slot you moved to. You could move a year later to another slot with different MOS. When promoted you are actually qualified for all MOSs you have for your new rank. Looks like you did just fine.
