Sadly, It does not get entered in the ERB. At most, you can get it mentioned in an NCOER. I have done a lot of research on this issue. I have the Order of St. Barbara (FA), the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club Medallion (FORSCOM), and the MG Aubry "Red" Newman Award (FORSCOM). Regimental and MACOM awards fall in the category of badges of quasi-military societies.

At the time of my research, 2002, certificates were not placed in the OMPF/IPERMS. This may have changed. (Army Regulation 600–8–104, Army Military Human Resource Records Management)

AR 670-1, para 22–12. Badges authorized for wear on Army uniforms
d. Badges of civic and quasi-military societies of the United States and international organizations of a military nature. These include badges of organizations originally composed of members who served in a U.S. force during the Revolutionary War; the War of 1812; the Mexican War; the Civil War; the Spanish-American War; the Philippine Insurrection; and the Chinese Relief Expedition of 1900. These also include badges (such as medallions) issued by military (regimental) associations. The badges are worn only while the wearer is actually attending meetings or functions of such organizations, or on occasions of ceremony (as authorized by the commander). Personnel will not wear these badges to and from such meetings or events. Items must be similar to those authorized by AR 670–1 and worn in the same manner.

Your guidance is the correct one. The NCOER/OER is the best place to capture Regimental awards.

Add "awards", "S-1", "HRC", "ERB", and other applicable tags for more attention to this thread. If its anything like the Bronze order of Mercury for Signal Corps, I'd suggest you get a copy of the paperwork put in your OMPF.

I wouldn't know. I retired as a MI major after 21 years and never got one

SSgt GG-15 RET Jim Lint Throughout my early years in the Army, we were definitely coerced into joining at the company/battalion leadership level; as well as a number of other associations. I'm a lifetime member of the 82D Airborne Association for the same reason; Back when I was a PFC, I refused pay, so the CSM held a mandatory 1800-UTC briefing on the benefits of joining, only for those who hadn't paid yet.

When I was a SPC, my 1SG staged an arrest of a SFC while we were in formation, citing dereliction of duty for not purchasing MI Ball tickets; they had the MPs handcuff her and put her in the car and everything. They waited until the younger Soldier's who fell for the stunt to purchase tickets, then revealed it was a stunt. It was such a betrayal of trust.

I'm not saying the organizations themselves compel membership, but that some units turn it into that through unethical acts such as those described above.

SFC (Join to see) - that’s awful. Unfortunately, instances like that are what erode Esprit de Corps, not build it. Equally unfortunate is that I’m willing to bet most of us have similar stories.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff - SFC (Join to see) - one morning before one of the upcoming Balls, at morning PT formation, our 1SG was quite unhappy with low ticket sales.
He chewed us up and informed us that because obviously as a group, we were not interested in participating in the Army, he would not allow us to participate in other Army activities. PT was cancelled. This speech took about 30 minutes. He informed us that we would be in formation for the rest of the PT time so that as soldiers and NCOs, we could think about how we let ourselves, each other, our leaders and the Army down. And then we stood there.
It was in that 45ish minutes of thought that I promised to myself that I would never attend an Army Ball, Dining In, FRG event, etc. It was one of the worst displays of leadership, in or out the Army, that I’ve ever seen.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff - it was terrible. Same 1SG, rather than requesting people come to his office, a few days later at the end of week close out formation was actually calling soldiers out, “hey soldier, buy a ticket yet?”

On and on. He asked probably 20. They all said yes. I’m positive at least 18 of them lied. Until one SPC who was out f*cks to give...

Paraphrased:
“No I didn’t 1SG
-why the hell not?
“I don’t know know 1SG. Im just not that into it.
-well why not? Don’t you want to put on your dress uniform, look nice for a change, spend a good night with your comrades?
“I spend all day with some of them 1SG. And I think I always look nice. So I guess I don’t 1SG.

There was a collective gasp, and several laughs. The 1SG nearly stroked out. He pulled told the PSGs to take over and he pulled that kid aside and ripped him upside down and inside out. It was...awesome.
I didn’t go to that one or any other. Left a bad taste in my mouth. It never ceased to amaze me how poor some Senior NCOs under the concept of Esprit de Corps and how to develop it.

If your award was awarded as a Certificate of Achievement, it can be placed in your OMPF. My SAMC award came like that but I know others have not.
