I receive disability from the VA. 30% for anxiety, 10 shoulder. My VA decision letter states anxiety indicates mild symptoms that are transient; or some difficulty in social, occupational, or school functioning, but generally functioning pretty well, has some meaningful personal relationships. Basically, transition stress to civ life. I am done with school soon and want to get back in. Any chance?

SGT Michael Martinek: Sergeant, I have a 100% disability rating. I really don't know if it would be possible for you to reenlist. Prayerfully, you WILL be able to, Sergeant.
-With My Warmest Regards, Margaret

Foremost, you need to call your local Recruiting office. There are several avenues of questions that need to be discussed, none of which should be done publicly to non-verified military personnel.

Secondly, seriously, you need to call your local Recruiter. Sites like "themilitarywallet.com" are obviously not DoD, I could post an article there saying that in order to re-enlist you must have a purple elephant tattooed on your fourth point of contact and be just as valid. Recruiting regulations change frequently, so the best way to be up to date is be to be in personal contact with a Recruiter.

Hit up Google, and call.

Thanks. I have been working with a recruiter for several months and am getting nowhere with them. Just called a new one yesterday to try and get the ball rolling some more. Just looking for some personal experiences or what people have seen. Good recommendation though, thank you.

I have a similar situation, 50% anxiety, depression, and failure to adapt and 10% tinnitus. I wanted to see what my options were if I could get my head straight. Recruiter told me that I should instead focus on getting 100%... like he couldn’t believe that someone would want to get rid of a disability rating and the payments

30% is cut off for reenlisting last I heard but talk to a recruiter of the active side or the guard and see what they say..you MAY luck out and sneak thru on a waiver.

Can I re-enlist with a 40% VA disability (with 30% being anxiety that is transitional based) and RE-1 code?

SGT Michael Martinek I think you might be out of luck, brother. Everything I can find says it's a no-go if over 30%. I know I'm in the waiver process, but my rating is only 10%.

Yea I'm kind of balancing dropping all my ratings and getting a waiver. Thing is I served with the ratings in the guard, in an infantry unit still, and trained for two years. That make this shit so hard. Thanks for the help!

SGT Michael Martinek - you might speak w/ a recruiter for the guard. If you were already serving w/ that rating, maybe they can get you waived in under those pretenses? One thing I know for sure, you need a bulldog of a recruiter. It took me 17 years to find one that has been willing to put boot to ass like my current one does. She's driven straight to MEPs 4 times for me to talk to the CMO face-to-face.

Thanks for the link to the military wallet. Browsing through the site, it seems like it's a solid resource.

You can't, I got out with the intent of finishing my degree and reapplying to OCS but every recruiter I have talked to says above 30 you can't get back in. Sucks, but hey I'll never miss a mortgage payment

Fair enough! Don't want to miss those. Think I am going to look more towards the national guard now, since I served in the NG with the same ratings after active duty. Thanks for your help!
