If sexual assault is such a problem in the Army, and military as a whole, why would you stop soldiers from being able to get out their urges as easily as possible when they already can't have sex for 9 months? I understand local laws, but we've invaded these countries... We're breaking plenty of local laws.

So you are saying to HELL with the nation's LAWS you are in, and the fact that you are so weak, that you can't control your own urges- a prime candidate for assaulting another SM it sounds like. Next you would demand alcohol in Muslim countries, and then be shocked we they revolt , kill our troops and throw us out. Hell let's just allow Sharia law in the US- let Moslems do what they want- stone women, execute thieves. What is good for the goose, is good for the Gander right?

SGM Bill Frazer - Odd I never got escorted when I was deployed. In fact, I walked the FOB alone, at night, every night when I worked night shift. Both deployments.

The no sex thing was not because of being in a Muslim country. It was about keeping order and discipline. Since people were doing it anyway, the relaxed that GO in 2008 and said single people could have sex (with other single people).

The porn ban might have been. But I don't know for sure.

No I didn't have to have sex or porn. I never have needed sex to do anything. In fact at this point, I'm great without it. I have no urge for it now or the last almost year and a half. I think more people should try going without it once in awhile. A sex "fast" if you will.

The Constitution doesn't apply to foreign nations but it DOES apply to servicemembers no matter where they are deployed to.

Ma'am FOB is a military installation, not a native town. We have control in FOB. Not outside the wire. You violate local laws, the Constitution doesn't hold a lot of sway. With a Status of Forces Agreement

It's about where we work and who we work with overseas. Regardless of the harsh realities of war (and in particular, non-conventional warfare), our overriding "mission" in these regions is stabilization via the support of "moderate" governments. Many of the officers I worked with in the ANA were former Mujahideen-meaning they were still fundamentalist...just of a different sort than those wanting to kill both them and us. Ostensibly, we wanted to earn their respect and trust ever bit as much as demonstrating the fact that things were going to go our way, one way or the other. I even made morning prayers with my 'Terps...you wouldn't believe how that positively influenced mutual trust with these guys.

That said, it was and is a long standing joke that if you send an Afghan to the U.S., the first thing they'll want is a trip to the strip club. I had a very senior ANA officer offer me a shot of whiskey once...good stuff too (yes, I respectfully declined). We didn't have but a few females that ever made it down our way...but we advised all of them to never go to the ANA side alone (which wasn't really a good idea for us either). Anyone who's been close to the Pak border has heard of "Chinese Restaurants", and anyone who knows the Pashtun has heard of other abuses.

Hypocrisy is a multi-cultural experience.

Now, all of that aside, and without incriminating anyone, all I'll say is that during the course of a year downrange, I don't recall anyone getting NJP for porn use. Maybe we were all good boys, maybe some people were just good at E&E; who knows?

Beyond that, my own little bit of free "life advice" is that like any other addiction, porn has a sting in its tail.

Seriously? If you're on an OP, especially deployed in Indian country, (No offense to anyone, an old Vietnam term for where the bad guys lurk), your mind had better be on the mission, not your junk.

In the rear, on stand-down? Sure. Knock back a few at the club, a clandestine trip downtown for some female companionship. Outside the wire, on a riff, you'd best be all business, because Mr. Charles was.

I can see alot of "great" seniors here who, instead of answering the question, personally attack lower enlisted. You're all probably the number one problem with retention.

It may show something when you're taking it personally, but I wasn't referring to you. Senior leaders are E7 and above.

SGT (Join to see) - Who personally attacked you? I didn't. I said that you need to get some serious help with your obvious porn addiction and that you have not been paying attention in any SHARP training since basic.

No one personally attacked you though.

SSgt Joseph Baptist - Telling someone they appear to have a porn addiction isn't an attack. I even talked to counselor friends of mine describing what he said and they were very concerned about his posts.

No he equated a lack of sex or access to porn as a reason for sexual assault and said that if porn was legal downrange sexual assaults would not happen downrange. FALSE. Porn is allowed stateside yet sexual assaults still happen while we are all stateside. So how can you say that soldiers need porn downrange for "release?" Why can't they just use their imagination? So to say porn is needed for sexual release suggest that someone has a porn addiction. It's not necessary for healthy sexual release. At all.

He didn't say "occasionally viewing porn." He said porn downrange would erase sexual assault. That's not true and that's a disgusting comment to equate lack of sex to sexual assault.

I don't watch porn. I think it's stupid and pointless. I don't get how anyone gets turned on by it.

SSgt Joseph Baptist -
Verbatim what he said: "If sexual assault is such a problem in the Army, and military as a whole, why would you stop soldiers from being able to get out their urges as easily as possible when they already can't have sex for 9 months? I understand local laws, but we've invaded these countries... We're breaking plenty of local laws."

So you agree he equated that a lack of sex results in sexual assault but it seems he thinks that it only happens down range...

Look at his words. If it's such a problem why don't we just help these people get their urges taken care of. As an alleged survivor you should know better.

I have no agenda. You seem to. I have answered the question and other questions. What the hell is your problem? You're extremely hostile to me for no reason at all.
