I just got out and am contracting on a base in SC. I know that as a contractor, I can't use the base amenities, but as a veteran can I use the gym?

Government liability. Probably no, but as stated before, base by base and case by case

Not sure what any of your tags have to do with the question. If it is Army, go to the FMWR's website for that post and look up the eligibility rules. Unless you are a retiree, contractors may be ineligible. The base should have somewhere on their website hat describes eleigibility for MWR facilities.
This is FT Jackson's eligibility. https://global.armymwr.com/us/eligible-patrons
You have to confirm with the staff. AAFES are the only ones offering patronage to veterans.

I don't really ever use this website and when I typed in gym all that came up was some gymnastics group. I usually would just use Google but couldn't find any info.

It says DOD patrons over 18. Ask.

While med-ret on my end, if you go in and act like you belong nobody will bother you. On FT Carson, the gyms are empty outside of PT hours and 1530-1800...if there is nobody actively checking IDs, get your swole on mate.

Went today just flashed an expired CAC they let me right in. On my way out I asked if I could get 24 hour access and they swiped my magnetic strip into the system so I can get in whenever.
