Can we finally end the horrible social experiment of women in direct combat units now?

First they ALL failed the USMC Infantry Officers Course then they ALL failed Ranger school. The DOD's prime war-fighting functions are not the place to run this social experiment.

There were many things we once considered "horrible social experiments" that are now the norm for our military. Off the top of my head, it was once seen as detrimental to a unit's effectiveness to have African Americans in combat units both air and ground. The 54th Infantry (Massachusetts) and the Tuskegee Airmen proved that wrong. Then the goal post was shifted to "coloreds can't command military units", again that was proven wrong. You can't reach a conclusion on the feasibility of women in Combat units based on the failures of a few. Give it time. Some will surprise you.

Well Captain, with that snapshot assessment you probably believe MSNBC is good journalism. That analysis of why African Americans were considered detrimental to unit effectiveness was shallow and a typical sound byte that liberals/anti-military would use. Do some research and you will discover that it was deemed that way because of the social differences between the two cultures and the ability of white soldiers to adapt when segregation was still the norm in the country. Right or wrong, the military opted to wait instead of forcing a social experiment and degrading the effectiveness of the military. Integration in the military began at the forefront as our culture started to change. Did allowing more black 'male' soldiers into the military help military readiness? YES. Did it provide a larger pool of men for combats arms units? YES. Are nearly all black men capable of performing the same duties and hardships as white men? YES. Now they want women in combat arms MOSs. Why? Is there a short supply of males to fill those positions? NO. Will it help the units to perform their missions better? NO. Will it help the Army win more battles in the future? NO. Are nearly all women capable of performing the same duties and hardships as men? NO. Then why do it? Politics and forcing social agendas. Women who want to attend Ranger School should be afforded the opportunity under the same standards. They wouldn't want less. Just stop Recruiters from screwing over females by placing women in Combat Arms units unless they ask for it. And then give me a good reason for letting women into CA units. If you can.

SFC Troy Harskjold (Ret.) - Perhaps your revisionist history of how the racial discrimination in the military that occurred over the past 70+ years is something that makes you sleep better at night. The reality, and fallacy, or your comments is that Blacks were considered detrimental to units as much as Americans felt the Japanese couldn't possibly fight well prior to WW II because they weren't white. its called racism and it was alive and well in the US military form when Blacks first attempted to enter the military as well as in schools such as West Point. You quote social differences and the ability of Whites to adapt as the reason why Blacks were kept out of combat units? You show your ignorance of history and reality with that nonsense. Then you use the "its because the CPT is a liberal and anti-military (given he's a CPT that to is simply a rant and inaccurate). The military did not opt to wait, they openly pushed for segregation and it took a President to direct the military to de-segregate. Integration had to be directed and in no way "began as a culture change." Is there a short supply of males for all positions including combat positions in the military? Yes there is. Will adding women to all positions help units perform their missions better? Yup, last I looked, women are better at being Forward Artillery observers and, in some cases, snipers than males are. You seem to come from a generation that would rather have women barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen that doing "man's work" and that's why you're a dinosaur and outdated. How the hell do you know if our military won't win any more battles because women are allowed in all units? last I looked, not all men can perform the same duties and hardships of various units; hence why those men are not in those units. Could you be a SEAL? A DELTA? If not, guess you are a detriment to our military being able to conduct and win wars. And last I looked, Recruiters screwed over men as much as they do women simply to make points as well as actually attacking and screwing (raping) women recruits and, in effect, some Recruiters are the enemy and justifiable belong in jail (as some are). You want a reason for women in combat arms units? How about, because there are some that can do it and even out perform males (not all males can pass Ranger school, not all males can hack it in CA units, guess they should turn in their CA insignia and become CS/CSS troops, that is your logic, right?). Bu then I expect you'll simply continue your "anyone that doesn't agree with me is a liberal/anti-military type" and that's your right (to be childish and uneducated and revise history). Just don't expect a lot of support.

Hey there troll. I hope SRC doesn't rely on your ability to be an Analyst based on this opinionated War and Peace novel you put together. Your conclusions are baseless and this rant is all over the place. You didn't answer the questions, you just put up more opinion. Are you justifying your opinion with your elitist status as a former officer talking to an uneducated enlisted soldier? Or let me guess, you were in the MI field and actually believe you possess some. 13 years as an O-4? More understandable now. First, I never said it wasn't racism, but was a 'documented' reason/excuse for the decision. That means it was written and not pulled out of your imagination. Are you trying to show some female how sensitive you are to woman's issues or trying to relieve some of your white guilt by saying, "I have black friends". Its apparent you were looking for an opportunity to share your weak opinions and to show your "superior intellect'...LOL It was the liberal thing that made you read everyone of posts and comment because of your left leaning politics. The "a typical sound byte that liberals/anti-military would use" doesn't say he's a liberal, its what they would use. You suck at being an analyst. Hopefully no one relies on it as actionable intelligence because you'd get folks hurt. Go troll someone else.

A ton of men fail Ranger School and these other courses----by your gender logic, these courses should then be off-limits to men, too? Nonsense, for both genders.

Hmmm... well, up to the time that that the Army (Ranger) & Marine Corps (IOC) opened formerly closed doors to women, 100% of those that failed were... (wait for it, wait for it)... men. Overwhelmingly staggering statistic, isn't it?

Captain, you're not comparing the correct stat. The germane stat here is the admitted/passed ratio. So far, the female version is 0%. The male version is much higher, yeah?

SN Greg Wright You're absolutely correct. For this to be relevant, we need to massively expand the number of females that attend Ranger School. The "n" of 19 in this case is simply to small to be statistically relevant.

I had two females go through Ranger School with me. Both earned their tabs and worked just as hard as anyone else. Obviously this is a less frequent occurrence than with men, but they deserved the opportunity. If anyone meets the standard set they deserve the opportunity to be whatever they set out to be.

Yeah we should end this horrible experiment exactly like we ended segregated units by accepting realities and understanding the demographic changes occurring in our society and accepting them.
Women are 16% of the force and are an essential part of the force.
No one is going to revoke your "man card" boys if you accept the reality.

not physically and mentally capable. Just left an anthropology class that would beg to differ. back in the day (before wheat and corn growing) women were in the same physical condition that men were. As far as mental capability, you're out of your mind. It's a personality thing-not a man/woman thing.

All things aside, spec ops training should have a specific standard, and if you meet the requirements to make the attempt (SEAL, SF, Ranger...etc) you should be allowed to try. Social experiment is a shitty term to use for it in all reality. Is it true that there will probably be a higher percentage of women that fail vice the percentage of men that do, yes. But there will be some that pass and do very well once they earn their stripes same as the men. I knew a female EOD tech in the navy that was as hardcore as any of the guys, nobody dared try and discriminate around her.

Hey, does it matter what gender they are IF they pass the standards of training and fitness. That means the male standards folks. I don't care if they are men women or trans-testicles or what ever. The modern force is all inclusive now right? The bottom line up front is DEATH DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT WHAT GENDER, RACE, SEXUAL PREFERENCE OR CREED YOU ARE! Death is the most equal opportunity employer in the world and if you don't desire to be so employed, team work, training and trigger pulling is the only way not to be gainfully employed by Death. Deal with it!

Totally agree with Chief Carpenter. And I hope one day I will get to see a female Ranger.
