The Definition of Line of Duty Determination (LOD) From Health.mil is “ inquiry to determine whether an injury or illness which occurred when the service member was in the military duty status. If the service member was not in a military status whether it was aggravated by military duty, or whether it was it incurred or aggravated due to service member to members intentional misconduct a willful neglect. So I have been told by multiple people that you cannot get an LOD for Covid. But other branches of the arm services are given LOD for Covid? Specifically I know the Air Force reserves will issue LOD’s for Covid and for the last week I’ve been trying to look up for national guard and can’t find anything.

If you were ignoring military, CDC, state and federal laws, and unit policies, regulations and guidelines and that led to you getting COVID, you absolutely can. That's your fault. Or as you already placed in your OP " incurred or aggravated due to service member to members intentional misconduct a willful neglect."

Roger, absolutely but I wasn’t and no one in the class was and we were on lockdown to our Barricks and could only go to the chow hall and to the class. But SGT shouldn’t they attempt to do an LOD?

This is a pretty good question. The purpose for the LOD is to cover the care as needed beyond that can be provided by a military health system. I have seen LODs for serious injuries but nothing like an illness like this. The question I would have is if you will need care beyond that you are provided by the military. If you are still at the school house they will be able to provide your care and get you back healthy. If you were leaving the school while sick you and think you may need more care then you might want one. We are having Soldiers test positive often on the active duty side. I tested positive recently. Usually, if you are healthy they will treat it like a you have the flu with a bit of quarantine.

Are you pretty ill or is it just the common symptoms that you will get over in a couple weeks.

Sir I thought the purpose of an LOD was to cover you beyond your military career. ie when you go to retire they look up and see what injuries and illnesses you have had while you were on active orders or military service. How do you document that you got sick in the military if you don’t get an LOD or have proof which would be I thought the reason an LOD is for? I have have LOD’s injuries from combat, that I was hurt at the time but no longer. What if something happens after my career your LOD’s are proof that I can still be covered by the VA. So I’m no sick the Unit put me on a 14 day quarantine. Still can’t taste things, and since this is such a new illness they really don’t know the last thing affects. So I would think they would caution on the side of error?

SGT (Join to see) An LOD is not necessarily used as a medical reference document. It's used to justify care. Your medpros has all of your records. I'm not sure about National Guard but you can go on to Tricare online and view all of your medical records. That is what the VA is going to look at. An LOD is not made by a medical professional. It's just used to cover you when you are not able to be treated by a military healthcare provider. I have been injured plenty of times. I have never gotten LOD when I was on active duty. The only time I've ever dealt with one was when I was in the National Guard.

LOD is normally for injuries that occur when not on active duty. If you are active duty in a school house you would go to sick call usually. If you tested positive for covid while at a school then you can get the records for your military healthcare to prove it occurred during military service for any future issues if you are worried about VA benefits.

We had covid testing performed when at V
BOLC and we could go in the portal for healthcare and view our results. My results for all active duty medical screenings for schools were also in there.
