That is different for every person, not everyone has the sme amount of bills/debt. For me, my retirement and the VA pays all my bills. My job now is spending money and money to put in my savings.

SPC Margaret Higgins, my transition from the military was 43 years ago; my current transition is to “retirement”, whatever that means in the long run. My retirement is from my savings over my working life, and we are trying to make that stretch. On the side I'm starting up a new business and have good resources available for my use. I'm only 71 and still have a few good years left in me - so I'm hopeful. Mostly I'm confident that things will work out according to the Lord's plan.
Thanks for your prayers – they always help.

SGT Scott Bell, same here. It's funny how life works out; I would rather still be working but was retired by the University; my wife would like to retire but got a raise and new responsibility as a Director in her company. Man plans and God laughs.

Depends on your definition of comfortably and VA pension. Do you mean can you live off your military retirement. Depends on your rank when you retired. Do you mean can you live off a disability? Depends on the disability.
You just haven't given enough information to answer the question.
