Can you run 1 mile right now, without stopping or having a heart attack?

Happy to say that I can run a mile without dying. There's a 10K that I do every year and luckily I've gotten a pretty good time whenever I do it. I don't know if I'll ever do much more that the 10K but I won't write anything off my list. Maybe a half marathon one day.

SSG(P) (Join to see) I don't run as much as I do other workouts. I lift 3 times a week and in the days in between I'll do an endurance workout and then 10 miles on a bike. Running once in a while but overall I found that this works really well for me. But like I said, I don't count things out so maybe I'll knock out that Marine run one day.

It is essential for personnel in the military to be able to run a minimum of two miles. Total body fitness is more vital though

Running isnt something I am able to do anymore since all the metal and nerve damage in my leg thanks to Iraqi Police. I have recently started to do Spartan races, and even though I walk the entire course, I can launch myself over 10ft walls by myself where others need the help of others to push them up and over. So although I cant run anymore, I can make up for it in other areas with brute strength.

It will test your abilities thats for sure, but it is a blast at the same time. Im wishing i would have known about OCRs and tried them sooner. Now that im embracing my retired status, the wife and i will be hitting up more this next season.

Never been a runner, I can do pushups all day...but running is an entirely different animal. I can do it (and I do 3 times a week), but I don't like it.

Well, I can run 1 mile but it's going to be quite a bit slower than when I was active duty. Ughhh!!! My physical fitness has ashamedly gone by the wayside but I can still function. Definitely need to get back out there onto the pavement. U.S. Army Marathon is coming up in the Spring and I really want to be able to participate. Would be awesome to complete at least one marathon in my lifetime.

It depends on the situtaiton. For a PT test I can run 2 miles. in Airborne school I can run 5 miles+ if needed. In a combat situation your adrienline kicks in and you run as long as needed.
Personally I dont think it has anything to do with how far you can run. I think combat readiness comes from being able to strap on a few plates, grab a rifle and go to work.
I mean hell there are some people that can get out and run 50 miles. Does that make them combat ready? NO. I would rather have someone who is in decent shape and can carry their own weight plus some.

I've always found the first mile the hardest, until everything gets warmed up and my legs go pretty much numb, lol. Then I can usually go for a good long while.

Yeah I can still do a mile and a half, but the extra weight is hell on my knees.

I think my diet change is mostly responsible for the 15. I stopped drinking soda and lost about 10 pretty quick. Another 5 from portion control and excersize and now I'm trying a low carb thing. My workouts are far from consistent at this point.

John W - you'd be amazed how much sugar is in soda, even "diet"soda. for your next trick, try and lose the salt. it retains water no end, hence making weight loss difficult

I tried "diet" soda for a little bit a few years ago and it made me feel worse than the regular stuff. I'm pretty sure I gain a good bit of weight drinking it from bloating. Plus it tasted like a science experiment. I stick to coffee, tea, water, and alcohol with an emphasis on water. I even stopped putting sugar in my coffee.
