I have a buddy that is Army Guard, in an AGR position. He is one of the Admin guys (used to be PAC office, now, not sure what they call it!). He just saw the pricetag on them $250!! He is hoping that the unit does not make him get one... so, the questions I have: 1. Do you have to be MOSQ CAV to wear the Stetson or just assigned to the unit? 2. Are they optional or can a unit direct the purchase of one? (ok, I understand that this could be dependant on leadership decissions....).

Roger that sir on the leadership as with some squadron/troop functions are Stetson and spurs. Unfortunately this one is an out of pocket or a gift. For my unit 19 series MOS only on the spurs for those who completed a spur ride but all could wear the Stetson.

Units can't purchase them for their people. The spurs are the no no for just anone to wear. Stetsons can be worn by anyone on the planet. It is just showing support for the CAV if they are "outsiders." They CANNOT put the unit on their crossed sabers though! Rank only....unles they are CAV.

Cool! Thanks for the info! My buddy has found some guidance. Not sure if he is going to end up buying one or not.... there are lots of "rules" guiding the wear!! The cord color, rank, wear guidance (when/where/how). Cav was one area I never had experience with. FA, INF, yes.....Cav...Not so much! He was talking about Troop and Squadron.....Squadron threw me off a bit as that is more of an AF term....guess they use Troop and SQ instead of Company and BN.... Ahhh the things I learn! ;-)

gotta earn em! our div blue book covered the wear and apeariance, and you were only allowed to wear the stedson within the SQDN footprint, and only if you had completed your spur ride and been awarded your spurs. combat knots werent covered, but not strickly allowed, but we did it anyway.
