Try naproxen!! So much better than the old motrin. I used to make fun of my NCOs for taking Motrin all of the time but now that I am at 15 years it is easier to see why they did it. Helps with the aches and pains.

This is so true! For whatever reason I go to sick all, I always leave with 800mg Motrin.

I have often made fun of the Medical Corp in the Army about this... "You have a sucking Chest wound, Take these 800 mg Ibuprofine, Return to duty." It seems as for the last 20 years it is the "miricle" drug of choice for Military Docs to perscribe. I have heard that taking too much Ibuprofine is bad for your liver. My father is a perfect subject in this.

I use it every so often. I mean, I still have a bottle I got 7 months ago, that only had about 30, 400MG tablets? Any drug can be abused even ibuprofen, like all meds they do damage the kidneys somewhat if abused.

Ranger candy is a staple for me and is the Military's answer to everything that water can't fix. However I do find myself concerned with the possible long term effects of using it. The docs used to give me naproxen instead but after reading up on it and finding out it could damage my kidneys after pro longed use I asked for ranger candy instead. I'm sure that is no better but I fear looking into the longer term effects of it.

The problem that I have: instead of treating the cause of the pain, we throw pain killers at it. That doesn't fix the problem. All drugs have side-effects. It's just a matter of whether they are noticed; some are cascading effects. Some drugs are hepato-toxic, others nephro-toxic; the difference being your liver will regenerate when given rest. The kidneys will not. Once trashed and damaged, they won't get better.
What's better is changing the mentality of "Ranger Up" and making a minor problem a career ending one. I'm not saying never drive on, but there is a point that one needs to be smart about it.

Agreed 1LT but using "Ranger Candy" from time to time to just soldier up and get through a training is not a bad choice. Get the mission done and then recoup.

I try to only use it when needed, however the docs actually want me to take the stuff daily and I do my best not to. I'd rather do what I need to and then as PFC White said recover.

I have only been in 3 years now, but have heard some horror stories already from senior NCOs about body aches/pain. So I understand the use of pain killers but not as an "every day" thing.

I have switched to an all natural pain reliever made by Metagenics called Inflavonoid and it helps with inflammation.

Some Studies have found that excessive use of NSAID may cause decrease in muscle growth. There are conflicting studies but in theory it could make sense.
