It has been clearly evident lately that America (RP included) has reached a pandemic state of hurt feelings and tiny hearts led by the PC crowd. It seems the M.O. is "you are entitled to your opinion unless it contradicts mine then you're a (fill in the blank) and it knows no bounds. Will Jerry's point actually generate some thought or just more name calling?

(also if this link is a little too P-unC for you you are welcome to adjust fire to the left for a source.)

Entitlement, IMHO will put a damper on this and similar efforts. People want what they want and don't want to settle for terms like "majority" and "consensus" or "go with the flow." We seem to have 300 million, "My way or the highway" opinions out there.

The big problem is that there is an orchestrated campaign to silence differing opinions through public shaming.
Emotions have taken the place of debate supported by fact.
And the slow descent of civilization accelerates.

"And the slow decent of civilization accelerates." Truer, more depressing news has yet been shared on RP.

It does not seem that slow. The media seems to like keeping the ratings up, despite the lack of educated viewers.

Over the course of the last 25 years or so, if not longer, there has been a gradual change in the manner in which society has "evolved" as far as what is acceptable or PC. As more of our younger generations have been raised in a more liberal society, whether you have conservative or liberal views or somewhere in between, we have become less tolerant of one another's viewpoints. Like MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca stated, we have devolved into a society where it no longer matters what the majority view point is, if there is one individual/group/cause that feels for whatever impinged upon, then there is/will be hell to pay!

Frankly, and maybe you feel this proves your point, I don't care for majority opinion. Mobs have rarely maximized freedom. Especially for the minorities (using that term loosely).

SFC William Swartz Jr

But I don't think you're advocating for pure democracy.

We, as a nation, have never been nor alluded to being a pure democracy, we are a democratic republic, while authority and power is derived from the citizenry of our nation, we have elected officials that run the government on our behalf. We wouldn't function or even exist as a nation if we did not utilize this form of society, there is a huge difference in majority opinion versus mob rule. We have devolved into putting the opinions and concerns of so many minority opinions over those of the majority, that even causes/laws that have been voted in by the citizenry of states have been tossed aside by the voices/concerns of those in the minority and that is not always a good thing. We at times seem more concerned with reacting to what some view as injustice that the overreaction by the courts/government/special interests then trample on the majority opinion. We have never hinted at being a utopian society or a society that depends on every single citizen being involved on the decision making process, that is one of the reasons why we established ourselves as a democratic republic, otherwise nothing would ever get done/accomplished/passed.
