PFC (Join to see) Do not rely on just what you find on line, call the provost marshal office [login to see] and ask.
Two reasons:
1: There are no take-backs, no second chances, come through the gate, and all is not right in the world of weapons registration and your guilty..period.
2: The only interpretation of the regs and policies that matter that count at this point is..The ones with arrest powers and commanders that will be tasked with charging you.
My opinion, or yours of what the policy states is not important here.

PFC (Join to see) Oh and make sure you get the full name, rank, and duty position title of who you speak to. Record the date and time of the conversation and the number you called

You're in Texas. It is 18 for a long gun and 21 for a pistol. I would forget a ccw there until 21. Sure maybe you could carry one on post(where? IDK), maybe to an on-post civ range if they have one , But off post? forget it. YOU ARE IN TEXAS. Don't mess with their laws. IMO and IIRC, you can't tote a pistol there until you are 21 , soldier or not. And trust me, you don't want to break the law in Texas.

SPC Christopher Perrien There is no minimum age to possess firearms under Texas law. You are correct in that you must be 21 to PURCHASE a handgun in Texas under current law. But mere possession is not regulated
And in Tx active Texas Military forces members, age 18 are eligible for a concealed handgun license.

I can recommend a CHL trainer as well as several ranges in the area

There is a military exemption for a Texas LTC. Active duty members can get theirs at 18. It's good for 5 years and recognized in 37 states.

There is not LTC on any post, if that is the question...you can register but you can't carry around on any base...

Make sure you talk to MPs on post as well. Unless it has change you may have to put the weapon in the Arms room once you register it in post. Each base is different. So, I would find that out first before you buy anything.

Go to the MP station on base and they will give you the correct answer. Normally that is the first thing you must do when you buy a weapons and bring it on post is go register it on base. They can tell you if there is a law or if you are to young on base to have one. PFC (Join to see)

Ask PMO. We had to register handguns, but were allowed to have them in Housing. Barracks personnel registered and stored them in Unit Armory. A weapons card was issued, and you drew your piece out for rec shooting. The SNCOIC of that section at Camp Pendleton was a MOH recipient, MSgt Richard Pittman. We met when I registered mine, and he was a professional SNCO. The only other MOH ACDU enlisted then was SgtMaj Kellogg.

Sounds like you have the State law figured, you should reach out to JAG and the Provost Marshal for the post policy.

I’ve read the fort hood reg 190-11 it doesn’t say anything about registering a pistol at 18 or 21

PFC (Join to see) - Definitely follow up with the PM and JAG, you want to be 100% on this.

My best Professional advise. And this will never steer you wrong. DO what SFC Palmer said. Call the Provost Marshalls Office. Even though the State of Texas says one thing, Army Post Fort Hood can have a different regulation.
Also with the Professional advise, I know this as fact since I was stationed there for about 9 years. You CAN NOT travel around post with said handgun in your vehicle. Once you but it and find the rules and regs about your age, There is a registration form you have to fill out, signed by your CO and must be signed off at the MP station. Call them first. So back to the point of transportation of weapon. On post only from your housing to the range at the Sportsman Club. Or if your going to shoot off post at a civilian range. make absolutely sure that you don't have the weapon loaded when returning back to post to your home. Your LTC doesn't mean jack on post. Keep your weapon box your weapon came it for travel purposes on post and empty all magazines. Put ammo in different location in vehicle so its not easily available.
Not sure what the difference between a License to Carry to a Conceal Weapons Carry permit but I will research it for my personal knowledge. As I advise you to do as well. Make yourself a Subject Matter Expert with all this. One last thing. I don't know you or your back ground. Going off your age. And some of the mentality of 19-20somethings. If you plan on going clubbing or driving around in "thug" mode....Do NOT buy a hand gun. Walk away from the idea. As I said, I was at Hood for 9 years and had a few Soldiers with that mentality that got into some huge trouble. So I ask that you take this as advise from a SFC that trained, worked, mentored, corrected malfunctions, and even had to use the UCMJ. I hate seeing Soldiers getting in the wrong direction.
Keep your powder dry. Give lots of hugs and kisses to the Mrs. God Bless Soldier.

Your AR’s are readily available as is the PMO. That’s where you get the correct information. Know for certain.
