Did anyone else hear about a new memo for the Army coming out stating that all current SPCs will be mandatorily promoted to CPL?

As well as some current CPLs will be switched back to SPC if they don’t meet the requirements? This is supposed to be in effect for Regular Army this month and USAR/NG starting in September

Gads! If they are rated NCOs... I can barely keep my current NCO population on top of their NCOERs. I hope that junior PME courses start spending more time on the evaluation system and using the support form more effectively

I never wanted to be an Officer. But I always envied them their PME. Officer PME seems (to me) to be focused on giving you as MUCH information as possible to fully prepare you for the job. NCO PME seems to be focused on giving you the minimum necessary information and getting you back to the field ASAP. For Os, it is a necessary developmental step, for NCOs it is an annoying block that has to be checked before getting back to work.

Not sure how it is on the active duty side, but reserves it is certainly not that way. 4 weeks of officer leadership course and not much is spent discussing OERs or most officer skills. Everything I have learned has been through experience and finding great mentors and spending lots of time asking questions on my own and researching on my own.
OERs and NCOERs seem to be a common issue in reserves as well. Every BA tons of time is spent tracking people down to complete their forms and getting things reviewed. Always seems to be something pushed to the background because of all the other mandatory training and tasks that need done.
My advice would be for some good senior NCOs and ask questions and research to become the NCO you want to be. Mentor your junior enlisted. Network network network. I have probably 20 officers of various ranks above me I can contact if I have a question or need advice and I often do reach out to them as many officers often reach out to me for the same. No one has all the answers, but a good officer NCO can find the answer to any question. SFC Casey O'Mally

I saw a quick brief on it, need to have completed a board and BLC. Didn't look further into it since I'm only about to pick up SPC once my 4187 makes it through the chain.

In 1984 I was saying this!!!!! My head is exploding, what the frack made the army do something that some SPC-4 said back in 1984 (Yeah you read that right!) Holy mother of God! This is huge! No more SPC-P's getting crapped on by both NCO's and SPC's. This great, I am happy for all of you who now get the chance to start being NCO's and wearing something that enforces that! Don't FRACK It up!

Sounds like BS, there have always been damn few slots for CPL's, mainly because CPL is an NCO slot, which limits their use

I'm thinking a bunch of E5's can be raters now, and a 2LT can be the Sr rater.

Corporals are not mandated to receive NCOERs. Sure, it would be good practice for both E5 and 2LT to write, however, only the support form is mandated for Corporals. Per AR 623-3
