served in the 628th MASS from 1988 to 1989 and helped the Russians following the Armenian earthquake. In retrospect this was a clue the cold war was coming to a close.

The Red Onion just across the street from the gate (at least it was when I was there 89-90). When I used to work the gate on the midnight shift the smell of freshly baked eckmec in the early morning hours starting around 0400 wafting from across the street was almost enough for me to abandon my post. Fortunately the Turkish AF NCO would have one of his guys run across the street around 0500 and buy it. Chi and fresh bread and butter in the morning...mmmmm good

Sgt John Steinmeier - BP cafe moved from down on the highway to directly across from the gate, was 2 story and had tables on the sidewalk outside. Red Onion was just a few building on the side street next to BP. They added an outdoor dining area in the back that was really nice. Loved their chicken tava

Spent a few months in tent city, 2002-2003 between trips in and out of Afghanistan on the Detainee Missions. Was able to bring back a Huglu Over-Under and a bunch of good carpet from the "alley".

Incirlik AB was my first duty assignment in 1982-83 and my last in 1987-90. Got out one month before Desert Storm.

When Operation Provide Comfort started in 1991, we had 30 C-130s to service every morning.

First assignment May 89 - Jul 90 39th SPF. Spent many weekends hanging out on the Mediterranean down by Castle by the Sea. Think some friends and I accidentally drove into Syria once while exploring some very back roads.

I was stationed there for my first assignment as well. I was there from June 2006 to October 2007. Loved it there. Had alot of adventures there, spent alot of time in castles and at the beach. Went to the capital and Istanbul. Beautiful country.
