Did you get a base directory when you transitioned to your duty station?

I saw one once for NAS Whidbey Island but it was already 2 years out of date in 2005 and it wasn't issued to me directly. Never even seen one for the other bases I've been on.

No...never in 25 years. I would take the old version home when they got updated.

Sgt Joshua Ray In 25 years I never did and never had a sponsor which I guess the Army says you are supposed to get.

I remember getting...one. That was when I went to Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis. The base is gone now, but I think I still have the book somewhere.

I think I saw one in 20 years. More often it was a plain text printout. Pre web days. Not sure who she has sold them to but not to bases I PCS'd to.

Thanks MSgt Aaron Brite! According to their website there is a base guide for a good number of bases around the globe. I hope their is still time to negotiate the price. I think most people use base 411 or google for base info. Am I correct?

I use the base website, even when traveling, and of course good ole Google. Not that I would knock a good printed guide but they can be hard to keep up to date. A good base map though... That is a rare and priceless commodity!

Thanks Col Charles Williams! I though the same thing. I never got one and rarely saw one being used. If I needed a number I called base's 411 service.

Yes and no.
With budget cuts they're not physically printed any more. But they should always be easily accessible online!

Thank you SrA Calvin Erkens for the reply! Some sales people will sometime tell people anything to make some money. Do people really go online to access the base directory?

Haha I know we do!
But this is my first duty station.
I'll be able to give a "broader" perspective in a few months!

Never got a base directory, never had a sponsor. I did get a pretty good ass chewing for checking in at my unit(as my orders stated) instead of going to the "Reception Center" first.
