Did you know that Army chaplain enlisted so he could help men in Vietnam?

RP Members a great story about volunteering!

Roy Ludlow was in the seminary in New Jersey when he received a letter that spurred him to travel halfway around the world.

A young Marine recounted a horrific night in Vietnam when bullets started raining down on him as he crawled out of his pup tent.

The Marine came out of the attack unscathed, but the story was seared into Ludlow’s mind and left him pondering his own ministry in the United Methodist Church.

“That guy needs to have a chaplain somewhere around,” Ludlow said to himself after reading the letter. “He’s facing life and death.”

No COL Mikel J. Burroughs I did not know that Army chaplain Roy Ludlow enlisted so he could help men in Vietnam. To be honest I would not be surprised if God prompted Roy Ludlow to alter his seminary plans so that he would be able to serve as a chaplain in Vietnam. God knows each of our needs and for those of us who are willing to serve Him, our Lord and Savior will lead us to help others get to know Him.

Thanks for sharing. The headline was a bit misleading as Chaplains are Officers and not enlisted. But other than that it was an informative story.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs, I know a young infantry captain (an RP member) who's an airborne Ranger. He serves in the Alabama Army National Guard and has deployed to the sandbox at least twice, the last time as a company commander. He just finished divinity school and is working now on transferring to the Chaplain Corps. He too, wishes to contribute in a different way. LTC Stephen F.
