Was cleaning the my subs propeller and upon returning to the surface a dock worker asked if I could run an electrical line to the boat for him. I said sure, of course to stay in the water longer, but had to drop my supplies aft first. I returned to the point where the line was at the water, approximately 25 yards away. What I didn't realize after grabbing the line was that my weight belt was still on and with the added weight almost didn't make it back to the boat. That would have been a story for the Navy Times had I drowned.

Best time scuba diving was in the Caribbean were we did a penetration dive onto an old sicken ship. It was about 100 feet down at it's deepest point. It was truly amazing.

I never got a chance to learn to scuba dive but did a lot of snorkeling while stationed in Hawaii. Lots of beautiful places to do both diving or snorkeling.

I am a Certified PADI Open Water Diver, and have been diving for 10 years now, being weightless is a thrill, and it takes the pressure off my knees and back, I am also certified Nitrox Gas, next will be the scooter class, I plan on saving up for one, that'll help the knees out. I recommend diving to everyone, it's something I can still do with my disabilities

Okinawa. Beautiful day, beautiful water, peace-time & peaceful... Down about 50-60' looking for shells around the bottoms of coral and volcanic rock formations. At about the same instant I got a glimpse of something through a hole in the formation, the yellow & brown color and pattern of which did not match that of the rock formation, my buddy - who was down at the very bottom of the formation - came literally face-to-face/teeth with the biggest eel either of us had ever seen. Huge. I've never seen anyone's eyes open so wide; nor have I ever seen anyone - either before or since - execute and accomplish such an impressive "full reverse" maneuver in SCUBA environment!

1992-Wake Island. One month of flight testing special mission systems afforded me to dive the best clarity (100+ft), most diversity (giant octopus, lionfish filled grottos, giant eels, Napolean Wrasse, beautiful coral) depths to ?, WWII wrecks. I was a certified PADI OWSI, with 500+ dives including Italy, Panama, Puerto Rico, Okinawa, Kuwait, numerous U.S. sites and too many cold Pa.quarries.
