Galapagos diving with Whale Sharks and Penguins. Red Sea saw a Spanish Dancer, Roatan and Guanaja on live aboard with 100 ft visibility, Catalina Island at night in kelp bed, Cozumel with the wall, Great Barrier Reif with coral and fish, Hawaii chasing the turtles. Diving is great fun all around the world.

I finally dove the GBR this past February, during my vacation to Australia and New Zealand. I've been dreaming about diving the GBR since I was 8 years old. It was great, even being stung by the sea butterflies. I will dive there again.

My best dive(s)? I was part of a detachment of 47 salvage divers and 11 EOD divers to travel to Kawjalein Atoll to blow a reef on the East Inlet of the Island near the Airport Runaway. This was July 1987. Once we arrived, and with all our gear I might add, the Vice-President of Micronesia related there was a change of mind by his upper echelon, the President did not want to harm the ecosystem and we were called off. However, the Vice-President, understanding our plight related he would give us a MK-8 Boat and two 18' Boston Whalers. and go and dive on all the wrecks in the lagoon for the next two weeks. When I heard this, I was as giddy as boy on Christmas morning. So, for 2 weeks we dove on anything we could find, ships, planes, vehicles and lots of Grey Reef Sharks. The two wrecks that I enjoyed diving on the most was the PRINZ EUGEN and the Eiko Maru #2. Before the Eiko Maru # 2 was commissioned into the Japanese Navy it was named the Keneshu Maru. It was a Japanese Merchant ship that was used as a troop transport during WWII. And to add just a little trivia, my uncle was assigned to the USS North Carolina BB-55. I told him I dove on the only ship his ship sunk during the WWII, the Eiko Maru #2. He remembered that battle. He was the Gunners Mate Mount Captain on Mount 52. The 14" guns just below the Bridge. The Eiko Maru # 2 was fully loaded including live ordnance and ammunition. Being a Gunners Mate I knew they were very hazardous. So, we steered clear of those areas. The best dive was the PRINZ EUGEN. It was a German Heavy Battle Cruiser, that was cruising with the Battleship Bismark on her maiden voyage. The PRINZ EUGEN was part of the Bikini Atoll Nuclear Bomb Testing. It didn't sink until it was being towed to Kawjalein Island. It started taking on water in the lagoon, so it was pushed ashore by two ocean going tugs. It eventually slide down a shelf and buried the bow into the sandy bottom at 120'. It rolled upside down and all three stories of 8" gun mount fell into the sandy bottom. It came to rest with a large portion of rudder, screws and and ships hull sticking out of the water. We could walk on the bottom of the ship. That was my best dive and I doubt I will ever have another dive to top that. But, I will not stop trying.

I was stationed at Kadena AF, Japan. I went all the way up to the final and got orders to leave back to the States. I never finished the course. I was on the last dive and test. I need to finish what I started back from 1988. PADI
