Do Army MPs get a badge number?

Also SFC Boyd was responding to the original question which was about MP badge numbers. I spent over 40 years Full time between both Military and civilian Police. The point is what is true for the civilian Police Badge Isn't true for the Military bade as to ID. That is all the original question was about which is fine.

When I was in back in1969 you were given a car number i was car 11 which was patrol supervisor other cars were numbered and you were assigned to that car by your name back then that’ made sense

My two cents. I was an Active Duty MP during 91 - 01, stationed in 6 duty locations and never was issued a badge. I remember that our badge number was the fist letter of the last name and last four of the SSN. The only ones that I known to have a physical badge or Credentials were MPI and CID. The credentials were for accountable and sensitive items. Currently I am a DA Lead Security guard, where the Dept of the Army Civilian Police have badges that are issued to them and have to be return when they depart.

Actually, a lot of departments issue a badge number to their Officers. I was civilian LE for 20 years. My badge number was my call sign and used on all my paperwork. It was not just a number on a piece of equipment.
