I was used to setting up three OE-254 antennas remoted to FDC for radio comm and all internal comm was wire. Has that changed? I am interested to know in the AN/GRA-39 is still in use for anything not just artillery?

Cpl Ryan McGrath An elderly friend was awarded a Silver Star for pulling wire for his artillery battery in Europe during WW II. Fred Blank is now 101 years of age!

292 Antennas are no longer in the inventory?

Cpl Ryan McGrath As I re-visit those photos, SSG Ed Lopez is wearing a 1 MAR DIV patch while serving in the CAARNG in 1974. No big deal, it mattered to him and did not distress me, the CSM.

I never noticed if he wore a personal award CAR on the right side of his dress Blues.

I understand Ed retired from the ARNG back ‘East’ as CSM.

Not sure about USMC Artillery, but us Army Artillerymen use radios digitally.

So no wire comm is used at all? FDC communicates with the guns and others in the pos by radio?

Not in the Army, just radios and antennas

I guess I'm just curious how an artillery position is constructed, and how it communicates internally and if outbound communication is remoted

SFC (Join to see) it may be the same with the USMC now too I don't know. I guess security in our over the air comm has improved to not worrying about more than one signature being detected.
