You don’t want to stay there. If they let you hang out there (and not take leave), they will find a lot of nonsense for you to do. Mowing lawns, raking rocks, picking up trash, staff duty desk... It would be much wiser for you to take your leave and go find a beach by yourself to relax for 2 weeks than submit to indentured servitude for the holidays.

SGT (Join to see) - So go to a recreation area and rent a cabin for a couple of weeks. If there are other soldiers who aren't going home, maybe two or three of you could split the cost. Just take the leave and get away from the unit.

Talk to the 1SG.
I understand the feeling, but you will likely pull a lot of duty, CQ, Staff Duty Driver, etc.

I agree with you. Asking the chain of command is more appropriate for this situation.

It's going to be a ghost town. So CQ, duty driver, etc is going to be easy money. If you don't want to go home, it will save you 10-12 days of leave that you can use later.

I didn't go home but served at the Welcome center and did CQ. Maybe if you keep a low profile... they will never notice.
