You receive the KDSM after completing 30 days in country.
You receive the OSR as you PCS out, for completing the tour.

I have no earthly idea, SPC (Join to see), but I flipped your profile pic so that you might not appear reversed!

The Air Force adds this medal once you have served thirty consecutive days or 60 non-consecutive days air, land or sea. Not sure how awards and decs are awarded in the Army sadly.

You are authorized the kdsm after 30 days in country. The osr is awarded once you complete the tour( 9-12 month)

Also, while you are there, it is much easier and, in my experience, more enjoyable to earn your Military Outstanding Volunteer Medal ( MOVSM) while stationed there (100hr there vs. 500hr conus). I got mine in a little over 3 month while cleaning up hiking trails. I got to see all corners of the ROK. I was hiking more than cleaning honestly, but we did accomplish our intended task.

I'd also take a look at this discussion too:

When exactly does the date start to qualify for the Overseas Service Ribbon? | RallyPoint
I am just curious on when the date actually starts? Is it the day you actually leave for deployment or is the day you actually step foot in Iraq? With the whole 9 month deployments, it is rare to be BOG in Iraq for 8 months 15 days due to layovers and the time spent in Kuwait. And yes I have read AR 614-30. This is literally just a question for the public.

I see from your profile that you are there in Korea now and have been since June '16. So at this point you are authorized the KDSM. When you finish up your tour around Jun '17(that's a guess, my tour was 13 mos and not regarded as overseas) or so and head for the big iron bird you will then be authorized the OSR.

I served on the DMZ in Korea & drew HFP rule # 1 for 13 months. I'm an Imjin Scout & was involved in many missions in & along the DMZ. Am I eligible for the KDSM and/or the OSM? I served there all of 1969 & 1 month of 1970.

Q8: Korea Defense Service Medal (KDSM): Does the change to the OSR policy also apply to personnel who have been awarded the KDSM...that is, are those personnel now authorized to wear both the OSR and the KDSM?
A8: Yes, if they received credit for the completion of an overseas tour in Korea
